Dustin having a bad start - +1 after 3, while Casey is -2. They're nw tied on -17.

And looking like Casey will knock Rory out of the vital 5th place in the standings too.

Looks like he just wanted to make it interesting for a few holes anyway. Gone into overdrive now though.

Hope he looses this form before hazeltine.

Jason Day withdrew half way thru his final round with a back injury
How will that effect the top 5 if he's unfit for the tour championship?

My guess -stays as is. He has still accrued the points for 5th place (provided that stays the way it is now) so 6th place won't be promoted should Day not play in 2 weeks.

Just catching up via the live pause, Exceptional play, just as well Casey didn't play like this last week.

I see Bryson dechambeau won the first of the web.com finals tournaments. His first tournament of the year and first professional win. The win secures his pga card for next year.

And Seamus Power's card confirmed too.

FedEx Cup winning scenarios. Rory only has to worry about DJ finishing no higher than T2 (provided Rory wins).

If DJ finishes higher than 2nd, then Rory can't win.

if DJ finishes higher than 2nd....... well that would mean DJ would have won

This is correct. If Rory wins, but DJ comes second on his own, then DJ will win the FedEx, but a tied 2nd for DJ won't be enough and Rory would win the FedEx. Any off the other top 5 finishing 2nd won't be enough for them to topple Rors

I didn't say 2nd.. I said T2. T= tied. If Rory wins and DJ is tied 2nd, Rory wins the FedEx Cup. If DJ finishes 2nd on his own, Rory doesn't win the FedEx Cup.

Rory opens up with a 3 putt bogey. Ouch.

And thankfully has had 2 birdies since. His wedge play is looking so much better this week.

    He's making putts

That was one hell of a horribly bad hole played by Rory. Shocking stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

And follows it up for another double. Awful lapse in concentration.

Followed by another double. Jasus... that's a shame after a nice run of birdies.

Mcllroy playing some lovely stuff, pity about the two double bogeys.

He woke up the wrong side of bed anyway. An absolute shocker of a 2nd shot in the 5th. 100 yards left and missed the green by about 10 yards.

Rich Beem highlighting what I've been harping on about all year regarding Rory's wedge play..... it's the poor wedge approaches that are putting pressure on his putting. Hard to see him get back on track today.... I know he usually does but he is hitting it so poorly so far.

Day withdraws once again. Was playing quiet well too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Great comeback once again from Rory. Back to 2 under with the par 5 last to come.
