"Wow look at that old dude in that old car".....is the most likely response.

Is it? :D ... you never drove one, because the reactions are complete opposite. Turning heads, thumbs up etc. People can appreciate proper cool car. Nobody cares about fwd rubbish.

you know my age? wow, that is very interesting.

Like rear spoiler for example... on a fwd car... that is ridiculous.
Do you know what a "spoiler" does? Little lesson here:

Oh and spoilers of any kind on a road car driving at legal speeds are mostly useless regardless of what wheels are being driven.
I drive an E30 318is (LSD diff with worn friction plates atm.) and a 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE (Essex engine... that is v6 3.0 litres of lovely rumble).
I always liked the Beemer E30's, especially the M3 examples. For me they are the M car and when I think of a BMW it's the E30 shape that springs first to mind. Showing my age I suppose. :D Haven't seen a Scimitar in yonks. Always made me think "hmmm so that's what a Capri shooting brake would look like". I don't say that as a bad thing BTW. I think the Scimitar was a lovely design, The Essex was a grand oul lump too. Didn't throw out much in the way of output(standard 130 Brake IIRC?), but was reliable. I seem to recall the queen of England drove one?
In my opinion fwd cars are shopping trolleys and nothing else. Golf GTI? Shopping trolley that goes fast.
The BMW E30 is a family saloon that goes fast. Well when I say fast... Even the M3 version would be seriously humbled by a Fiat 500 Abarth in the right hands and a Civic Type R(any of them, from 1997) would make it look like a peddle car. It's not even a proper coupe. A Germanic Ford Cortina after some work in the gym.

See what I did there? All nonsense on my part. The E30 was and remains a great car, one of the true motoring greats IMH. As was and is(mostly) the Golf Gti. It changed everything and humbled some far more expensive cars. As did the later Peugeot 205 Gti, a real giant killer in its day. That's before we get to kit like the Renault Clio Williams:

Or any number of others that would be a long list. Right back to the Lancia Fulvia, that was the giant killer in its day.

And well before we get to AWD stuff like Lancias, Audi, Subaru, Ford and so forth.

Helluva pilot that lad. The car seemed to be a bit of a handful at times, or is that just my inexpert eye as per usual?

They're OK in small doses, quickly gets repetitive, early stuff is the best before it became a much more shameless commercial enterprise.

I watched few episodes yesterday and find it quite entertaining. Not overly sensational, just two guys doing what they like the most... building cars and driving them. It's also a nice insight into the American hot rod car culture.

btw. this show reminds me why US car scene is simply the best in the world... cool late 60s Ford estate for only 3500 dollars? ... and a 16 year old kid whose first car is a 1951 Pontiac? Petrolhead's heaven. It makes the european scene look so primitive and very boring.

... Chevelles go for as little as few grand, or something similar from that era wouldn't be more than 10K and there are plenty to choose from. Distance is the only obstacle, but I am sure there are delivery companies that can deliver for few hundred bucks.

His quick thinking saved his life. A 40-50 year old bloke who might not be so nimble would've been killed there.

Or wouldn't find themselves in a tight spot like that.

    Quick? Maybe. Thinking? Not so...

It's Taiwan, not China. Brake checking like that used to be a pretty standard a$$*&le maneuver here in response to anyone sounding their horn, thankfully it's been well cracked down on now, submitting a dashcam video of someone doing it gets them a significant fine and points. (Video is from back in 2013, all the toll gates have now been removed and replaced with a very efficient countrywide tagging system).
