For the last few weeks there has been an almost permanent Garda checkpoint set up on Promenade Road - the one that leads out from the Tunnel towards where the ferry terminal. Just wondering - does anyone know why this is? Sometimes they seem to be looking at tax etc but mostly they just stand there waving everyone through. Anyone know?

At a guess they are amongst other things trying to stop puppy farmers exporting tiny puppies out of Ireland

There have been a few cases in the news lately that have been stopped at the port

I think they are checking trucks too for valid DOE.

I thought it was set up as some sort of protection against attacks from kinahans/hutch gangs ?

There's a permanent Garda checkpoint there now. To protect the docks apparently.
