    It was a rhetorical question.

    It was a rhetorical question.

    Why so touchy?

After the chat with Annalise Murphy, I laughed at Murph taking the piss out of Eoin for asking her stupid fluffy questions then having Simon come in with technical sailing questions.

Simon living up to his old "Poshboy Hick" monikor by being their sailing correspondent. Is he actually posh?

Don't know how posh, but I'd say it's far from bacon and cabbage he was rared.

Someone should remind Miguel to inhale occasionally.

Was out for a jog yesterday with headphones and shuffle on. Up pops Kanye with Bound 2. Decent enough song but I could help but mentally add, "What a day for Roscommon" to it. Kanye missed a trick...

Miguel is hard to listen to I think. Thought the SA guy explaining his point of view on the hypoandronic(?) SA runner was good to listen to even if I didn't agree with his stance.

I'm normally not a fan of the liberal use of sound clips on the show. I think, by and large, it's obnoxious, and just reminds me of Bulldog in Frasier (The clip of the lads on US Murph's show is hard to listen to because of this IMO). But I'll admit that I did get a chuckle from the John Delaney ones in yesterday's pd. :pac:

Also using Shane Curran's 'It's a dump' when Las Vegas was mentioned was funny.

    "John Delaney could run anything"

    "He could run FIFA"

That sound bite has been getting a fair bit of airtime lately and I can't get enough of it. :pac:

Saw Ewan McKenna having a moan on Twitter about been asked to appear on shows without being paid and he said he would only do the ones which pay contributors - which of course makes sense.

Got me thinking - what sort of fee would you say a show like SC pay each guest for each 10/15 minute slot?

Would it More likely a retainer of some sort?

The editing on the RTE version of the podcast is terrible. Randomly cutting segments off mid sentence. In the Fintan O'Toole one, it finished about 5 minutes before the end, after having a few minutes of news at the start and leaving in all ad breaks and songs.

US Murph is annoying me talking about the Olympics today. Sounds like someone who only pays attention to a lot of sports for 2 weeks every 4 years.

Also, and this goes for everyone, crucifying Ryan Lochte and in the next breath talking about how great Michael Phelps is really annoys me. Lochte's an idiot, no question, but Phelps has twice been arrested for a DUI but nobody gives a s**t because it didn't happen in the two weeks that the Olympics were on.

EDIT: Typed that as I was listening to today's podcast and to be fair to the SC lads, they did mention Phelps' DUIs. ;)

Just lol'd in the office and i'm not one bit ashamed :D:D

Conversation from earlier in the week about Neymar, Brazil etc.

Ken: "Would Jesus have behaved in that way?"

    Eoin: "What?...Worn a '100% Neymar' headband???"

To be fair to MacKenna, the tweet in question here was

    https://twitter.com/EwanMacKenna/status/766660828477128707

To me that implies he, and presumably other freelance journalists, have working relationships with certain media outlets who they don't mind giving their time to. It sounds more like he's annoyed at media outlets that can afford to have their own people on the ground or at least pay the freelance guys for their time but don't want to. I can see why that would be annoying, especially if you're trying to make a living freelancing and the media that are making you obsolete are trying to use your work for free.

I like McKenna precisely because he rubs some people up the wrong way. I don't think he goes out of his way to do it but he just speaks his true mind and as a journalist surely that's a good thing rather than pandering. Similar to Paul Kimmage and I like him too even when he can frustrate the life out of you.

Anyway why should they work for free, even if it's 15 minutes out of their day? It's one thing to get your name out there once in a while but another to do it on a regular basis. Who would be happy doing that?

It's great he's asking Farah those questions too. We need some pernickety in the world at times.

It says an awful lot about the current state of journalism that the few guys actually asking questions are the ones that are singled out as being the problem. If BBC didn't have Michael Johnson in for the athletics it would be unbearable to watch, particularly when it comes to Mo. Steve Cram was on the night of the closing ceremony and I swear he loves Mo more than his own kids.

Sorry I was the one who mentioned it and said he was having 'a moan' - wrong choice of words because I agree with his sentiment completely. I was then just wondering what guys like him, Jonatan Wilson, Miguel Delaney etc get for their appearances.

MacKenna's Twitter interactions have been really interesting in the last while - Ollie Holt (the most deplorable sports journo out there) and him really going at it and Barry Glendenning pulling him up the other day. He is definitely ruffling a few feathers. Sounds like he is going to make it his business to investigate Farah now which should be interesting.
