the problem with Google offline maps is that walking and cycling directions aren't available, just driving (which is daft, as you're much more likely to be using it whilst walking than driving). Searching for locations like businesses and restaurants doesn't really work offline either.

Absolutely, but it is still a good idea to download first from wifi. You can still access google maps with your roaming data for walking and cycling directions, reviews, public transport schedules, etc. but at least it doesn't have to download the map vectors over roaming data if you had pre-downloaded them first. It is the map vectors that take up by far the most data. cycling directions, etc. use very little data by comparison.

I agree that they should absolutely include the walking and cycling directions offline, it shows how US centric Google Maps is (And Apple Maps even more so). Most Americans rarely ever walk or cycle!

In Android, there's an 'Offline Areas' button in the Google Maps sidebar. iOS instructions are above.

Androids, "Navigator" and "Here maps" (Formally Nokia Maps) both allow you to download full maps of the country your visiting over wifi before you travel.
I think "Here Maps" may be on Apple too.

You can make the offline areas as big as you want on Google maps as well.

Very happy with this. I have the SIM working away on the second SIM slot for just data. I might switch altogether once I use up my TM credit.

These offers really put the rest to shame, pity they can't get 4g launched though.

So now €5 gets 10GB free data? Wow, I'm so happy I joined them!

Although I really hope they get 4G soon, they can be very slow at times though for the most part it's fine.

I don't think it'd work as they have a block on tethering on mobile (there's ways to get around it via root though) so I'd assume it'd be the same for a dongle.

Why abuse it, this deal won't be around for much longer if people start hammering lyca mobile network by the likes of this.

What speeds do people get in Dublin on lyca?

Has anyone noticed a drop in coverage with calls lately? Can't understand a word people do be saying, have to hang up and phone back.

Not sure how it is abuse, I'm just using the data aspect of their service?

You are tethering and want to hammer the network by streaming "shows" which I presume are in HD...

How nice of you to presume :D

If I can't tether I'll just use a large phone to do the same thing so not really sure what the difference would be?

You agree not to use the SIM Card or the Services and not to permit another person to use your SIM Card or the Services:

in or connected to any other device including modems, dongles and tablet devices, or any other way to connect to a personal computer, which includes using your GSM mobile telephone as a WiFi hotspot in order to connect to multiple devises, and any other form of tethering activity,
Don't argue with people here about this as it's clearly against their TOS. Take your argument up with Lycamobile themselves.

Not arguing about their TOS, arguing about the comment about abusing it. I'll be using the same amount of data in the same way whatever the device is, no "abuse".

Right, don't like threads going off topic.

    I won't abuse it I promise.

Mobile services simply aren't designed or capable of doing lots of high data services like video streaming. The odd video here or there is fine, but if you are regularly watching streaming TV shows etc. then you should really be using a proper wired broadband service which is actually designed for it.

If everyone goes around doing lots of video streaming on mobile services, the services will quickly collapse and it will be ruin them for the normal light users as it is a shared resource.
