Frustrated is a very mild word to describe my current mood! I'd a collision with a car (his fault), and dislocated my shoulder so ok i think get reset and I'll be ok in 6-8wks. So I bought a nice clean Cervelo S2 second hand iv bought full dura ace group set bar shifters I'm waiting to see a bargin or a clean used set, iv replaced most bolts with titanium made by myself joys of being a toolmaker with cnc machines got them anodised to match colour, general pimping of my new steed in down time, delighted looks great and also saved my zipp bars and stem from cento so all in looking great and suprising light for a older design.

So why frustrated you Ask? In the last 6wks my shoulder hads came out 3 times more, and finally got orthopedic consultant to do job right felt great god mobility and happy out I'd 3 weeks of recovery out of the brace and while parked at local shop I was sitting in car reading a message when a car reversed right into drivers door and yes you guessed it shoulder dislocated again, so after a few days of living in hope it was just a strain, I'd to give up and get ambulance to hospital yet again, today I'd a follow up with a surgeon and the latest impact has broken a bit of the ball of my femur bone and need surgery to correct, recovery time 6 to 8 months plus they can't do anything until my arm has time to tighten up so maybe a month or so before they can operate, pissed off is mild to describe the way I feel, and bad luck comes in 3s so hopefully I'm in the clear now. I'll have to try keep my morale up but atm it's rock bottom, oh I'm self employed too so another problem

Anyone experience of shoulder surgery? And how long before gentle rides? I guess retail therapy is the best bet for moment lol

I love the way they have the weights brightly coloured like kids' toys...

It could only be better if the weightlifters too were made of Lego.

Incidentally, why don't they do that with cooking weights too… oh, wait, people don't mostly use weights now, they use electronic scales. What a pity. Would be great for cooking with kids, especially if you had one set of metric and one of imperial.

Well that's absolutely shyte luck you poor thing! I've never had shoulder surgery, but I have dislocated my left one twice and my right one once and had collarbone surgery and guy very friendly with the turbo! Had a variety of slings as sweaty turbo sling is mank.

The only thing I can say is get well soon, and st least after surgery you'll be on the mend proper.
Bike sounds lovely too, put it somewhere you can see it for inspiration/motivation when you're not on the turbo!

@imurdaddy, are you getting any physio or is it too soon? Any pool work? (swimming, not table)

Edit: Not medical advice, obv, I have no medical qualifications or expertise. Purely a question.

Any upper body injuries and as already suggested by nee the turbo is the way to go (when you're ready for it!). If and when you can get on the turbo just start off very gently (just get used to turning the legs over ideally with minimum discomfort) and build from there. Make sure you have medical clearance before trying it though

I can imagine some car insurance investigator tearing his hair out when he gets claim...
Reversed into side of parked car, "about €500 should cover that..."
"He's self employed and can't work for how long? He can't ride he's bike?" ffs

What's that eggshells thing about again...

injury was pre-existing; impact was not sufficient to cause a dislocation in normal circumstances, is what i suspect the insurance company's initial stance would be.

To which the very nicely worded, headed paper, letter will say, "but it did and it would not have happened if your client had not reversed into my clients car".

The injuries board won't assess due to overlapping injuries but both insurers will have to pay for their respective injuries caused.

It's pretty common to have multiple accident-related injuries overlap or for someone to be injured due to some other pre-existing susceptibility.

Negligence is negligence and loss is loss.

a family member was involved in a minor prang a few years ago (car in front pulled away at lights and immediately slammed on the brakes, family member obviously wasn't paying quite enough attention and hit them at about 5mph probably).
the driver of the car in front claimed whiplash, and the insurance company refused to pay out on the basis that the driver had another claim for whiplash less than a year old, so it was a pre-existing injury.

that was the main thing that informed my post.
the above incident didn't end there, btw. the driver in front eventually won an insane amount of money.

On a lighter note there's a rowing bandwagon to be boarded.

Pats fan here but I have my tickets for Wednesday, over 30k sold. I was surrounded by Bohs and Pats fans at the game vs BATE. It feels a little weird cheering for someone who isn't my club but you're not Rovers or Shels so I can make my peace with it.

I know of a similar case, less than 5mph, basically a kiss, I witnessed the whole thing. Wanker in the other car said they were fine. Months later they instigated claims proceedings in court claiming all sorts of bull****. After a few years they were eventually awarded €100,000.

Incredible response from the Irish public. I'd expect sales to drop off a bit. i was thinking 25k would be great and 30k the max. I'd love if it was a sell out though and the important thing is that Dundalk put in a good shift and don't let Legia get an away goal.

I'll be there with a bunch of mates for sure, I'm thrilled for Dundalk. Seems to be getting a lot of the more casual fans out of the house too which is great.

Nice piece in the Irish Times about cycletouring the Beara Peninsula

    http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/travel/ireland/how-to-do-beara-peninsula-by-bike-1.2753094
In Castletownbere, I browsed the outdoor book market, then cycled out towards Beara’s western fringe, climbing out of the clear day into ragged hills and low mist. And as I rounded a corner and dropped out of the fog, the village of Allihies appeared before me, its pastel-coloured terraces rising under the sandstone cliffs of Knockoura Mountain, above a broad green valley. Allihies is, I later read, the furthest village in Ireland from Dublin. It looked mythical.

Anyone doing the Tour of East Meath? If so, any idea what the route is like? Thinking of going over.

i was having a look around adverts for friends who are looking to get a bike for their son, but it's very hit and miss in terms of finding the right size bike, at the right budget, which is not the other side of the country. he's about 16, 5'9" and almost certainly has a few inches to go yet, so they don't want to splash out on a good bike if he's outgrown it in a year or two. are there any bike shops in dublin which would stock many secondhand bikes they could look at? i think he's 50/50 between a hybrid and a drop bar bike.

Looks like a nice route. Some lovely scenery around the Boyne valley. I don't like the N51 solo, but in a group it'll be OK. The climbs in the second half look tough, but are quite doable.

The climb up to Bellewstown is probably the toughest, but it's not the hardest way to Bellewstown :) The one into Garristown will be over before you know it. It's rolling over the Three Sisters into Naul and then up Snowtown, which looks worse than it is from the bottom. A nice descent from Snowtown, the up to Mullaghteelin which is short but steep.

I totally messed this up last year. Didn't look at the route beforehand and just presumed, it being Meath, that it would be fairly flat. Set off with a group at a pace that was much too high for me and blew up half way through and limped home for the rest of the route. Lesson learned.

There are some juicy little climbs on it.

I clocked up 1,500m of elevation but that included getting to the start and going home again.

Agree....one of those roads which seems to have an above average number of close passes.

I'm heading up Wednesday also with four others from KK. I bought a Rovers season ticket but can't get to use it as my time is split between Kilkenny and Cork.

I know I've said a couple of times here that I'll do an event only for work to get in the way but I'm planning on doing my first sportive in three years next April at the Tro bro Leon in Brittany.
