Technical question. What do you call those gadgets that you put on the end of a cable where it might fray, and tighten it with a pliers, please?

Walk around any train station in Brussels, O'Connell St in Dublin, certain parts of London.
i've never been offered drugs on o'connell street. and it's not as if i've never been there. i can say quite easily that on the two nights i've been in lisbon city centre, i was offered drugs more times than i have ever been offered drugs in dublin.

barcelona - las ramblas - was another interesting experience when it came to being offered drugs.

I've never been offered drugs anywhere. I put it down to looking like a poor excuse for a plain clothes cop.

I've never been offered drugs outdoors. I put it down to my exceptionally clean-living appearance. At parties, back in the day, yes, was often offered dope; never anything stronger, though I knew people who used heroin and cocaine, the creatures.

Jeepers what kind of parties did you go to? Heroin never struck me as a party drug.
I actually do a fair bit of volunteering with the homeless, it's heartbreaking watching what addiction does to these people. I'm a bit over a year at it now and have seen numerous deaths, a person sleeping in her own waste, suicide attempts plus much more. What addiction does to these people physically and mentally has me totally against ever legalising any of these substances. Believe me I'm no angel but I absolutely would be against legalisation

Sorry, I misspoke. I was offered dope at parties. Separately, I had some friends who used heroin and cocaine. It was the sixties, man. As far as I remember.

I'd like to be that disciplined. With me it's usually 2 bottles between 1.

You like discipline on a Friday night? I think boards has a special forum for that sort of thing...

It's calmed down now, but in the past not only did people try to sell drugs to me with surprising frequency, but I was approached by people wishing to buy fairly often too.

There was a Larry David-ish incident that happened to me in California that I posted last night, but I got a bit worried I looked like a mild racist (in the sense of unwarranted assumptions), so I deleted it.

Apparently, the WHO recommendations on physical activity are too low to really get the best protection from common ailments. You need to get up to 3000 metabolic equivalent minutes per week.
“A person can achieve 3,000 MET minutes per week by incorporating different types of physical activity into the daily routine – for example, climbing stairs 10 minutes, vacuuming 15 minutes, gardening 20 minutes, running 20 minutes, and walking or cycling for transportation 25 minutes on a daily basis would together achieve about 3,000 MET minutes a week.
    https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/aug/09/whos-recommended-level-exercise-too-low-beat-disease-study

I presume if you do more than 25 minutes cycling daily, you don't need to get the hoover out so often.

It's often been said, but if the health benefits of walking and cycling were encapsulated in pill form, they'd be relentlessly promoted. Since active travel is a nuisance to those who habitually drive, it's marginalised.

Did you ever see any of those Africans with the incredibly narrow hips? Saw them often over in London and always wondered where they were from, but didn't have the nerve to ask. Seriously, their hips – men and women – are about a foot across, and they're tall and very slender generally, with a spectacularly graceful way of moving.

2 fencers and a shooter. The fencers I don't mind as I can pretend to be in either an old movie, jumping on tables, swinging out of long curtains etc. or even being be like Hikaru Sulu
