Did that €35 include the hardwire kit?
No, €35 is for fitting, h/w kit was €24.

Have a look through these: Halford’s Dashcams

I have a Nextbase 202 and paid €35 to have it installed/hard wired. Recommend the service for a tidy fit with no cables hanging out and on and off with ignition.

I dont like position of sd card too difficult to remove - my nails not long enough.

next time i get one with built in wifi then not necessary to remove card.

nextbase 312 needs to be wired direct cos battery wont last more than a minute on mine anyway

PS: Anyone know how/where to contact them to get the process started? The tracking service says "item sent to customs" - from the mail centre in Dublin 12, yesterday. So should be received in customs today.

If they decide to hold it, you'll get a letter in a few days asking you for a receipt or any other proof of the price. You email that - and two days later you have your parcel with a bill to pay.

Lads, speed stamp (putting the speed on the video file) on or off, what's the preference?

    On

I don't speed so I've nothing to hide.

On. It cannot be used as an evidence of actual speed, but is still an indication if you were accelerating or slowing down.

I have a Mini 0806 which gives me the option to record GPS/Speed data but not to stamp it on the video. This way if I need the data it's there and available but if I'd prefer not to divulge it I "don't" have it.

Have you a link to the one you bought. An awful lot of fakes of them out there. Need to replace my 0801. Although I need better night footage for winter time

I got mine from Gearbest. Not everyone recommends Gearbest but I had no problems with my order.

My Gearbest Mini 0806 is about 16 months old and going in the blink, I'm regularly looking for a clip only to fine whole chunks of time missing.

My 0801 in the rear still performs flawlessly.

In summary, I'm on the hunt for a cam to replace my 0806.

Here's a bit of question coming back from kilkenny yesterday and a speed van around abouts on the m50 and noticed that my cameras video seems to lag and then skip past the part of the van do you think the radio waves or whatever they use interfered with the camera?

Mine was missing chunks too because it was set on motion sensor .

I changed settings to always record and now it works perfect

My 801 started playing up at about 18 months. I think they just have a finite lifespan with charging cycles, temp cycles, vibration etc.

Replaced those in both cars with Nextbase 312s, a decent step up in quality. Halfords had a trade-in offer on click and collect so net cost to change was about E60 each.

Also I notice that BMW now offer dash cam fitting in the UK. Not sure what model they rebrand.

Good thread. As it goes back to 2012, which technologically is probably a generation ago, I've a few questions.

    1) In 2016 what's the best two-channel camera system (i.e. one that will record if somebody hits you from the back as well as the front?) I really don't want leads all over the place so would prefer if the camera is in a single place, rather than two separate cameras.

    2) I'd prefer to have the camera inauspiciously located in my car all the time like the eflow toll device is. Is there a camera that I could leave there without attracting the attention of a car thief? Or are most of you taking it out with you when you leave the car? Is suction or non-suction the best way to stick it?

    3) Is wifi enabled a must for a dashcam in 2016?

    4) Would I be better off buying it online or would dropping down to Halford's in the morning be just as cheap? (I'd be willing to pay them to install it)

If you go to www.mydealpage.ie and type in "dashboard" in the search engine you get four reduced-price dashcameras. Are any of them worth buying?

Won't have any effect what so ever.

There's a Nextbase front/rear cam that records side by side. Not sure if it has the quick release that the 312 has though. That's a doddle to clip in and out and there's a blanking plate for the contacts.

Next step up on 2 channel is Blackvue or Roadhawk but they are pricey.

Halfords click and collect is usually 20 or so cheaper than picking up off the shelf.

Only problem I found with the Nextbase is that the park mode is too sensitive so door closing started recording, when power comes on it doesnt keep recording when driving, just turns off. I turned park mode off.

Absolutely not, they are all cheap nasty Chinese cameras. Spend a little more and get something like the Nextbase or Transcend models from the likes of Halfords:

Picture quality will be infinitely better.

How about this (with a 64GB card), or would it be easily robbed?

Yes, got it set up. No major issues at all to be honest - found it very easy to setup and install. Have hidden the wires away around the windscreen and down by the drivers door. No issue linking it to the app - its automatically downloading all photos and associated clips for me to my phone.

Example video - nothing exciting, just an example for quality when set to 1080p. Great parking by the Audi :p
