Sounds like whatever you are building won't be exactly high end, so a 750TI is still a great card for budget :)

Yeah I know. Had somebody over and they pointed at the second computer under the desk and asked what do I use that for. Not a ****ing clue what its for! Had all my media on it, so copied the hard drive over to my main desktop, and giving it to my brother. Only has a six pin power connection, so was limited in what I could stick in there. Still not a terrible spec to get for free:

    I5 2400
    8GB ram
    60 GB Ssd boot drive
    2 TB Storage Drive
    DVD drive
    Lian li v351 Matx case.

And the 750ti when it arrives.

So windows 10,only getting around to installing it today. Would i be right in assuming it turns my windows 7 key into a windows 10 key for a clean install?

Im just going to do the upgrade today due to a lack of time but want to do a clean install over the weekend

Yes, it should convert the win7 key to a win 10 key.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Yeah I done the upgrade and used a programme I downloaded to retrieve the key wrote it down and done a clean install and used the key I saved and everything was fine.

My understanding was that i could just input my windows 7 key for when i clean install 10?
Is there a need to retrieve the windows 10 key?

How are you taking issue with the 20GB of RAM? That's sane compared to the 760 paired with a 260. Like... how even?

All parts are new... including that GTX 260?

Could it be using the 260 as a physx card?

I was just thinking that after I posted. Would that make sense? Can a 260 even support Physx (or even effectively)?
Edit: After a bit of googling. Maybe. In Borderlands 2 definitely. Certain other games may benefit like the Batman games. However in a rig with a 760 as the main graphics card, it isn't really worth it to have a dedicated physx card. Maybe in a 980(TI) setup paired with a 760GTX, there are tangible benefits, though it also may hold some games back a little.
The massive gains I saw were from 3 years ago, and drivers have improved a lot since then.

So the answer is a bit squishy. Maybe they found a decent benefit with the dedicated physx card.

The thing is a rip off so it wouldn't surprise me if there was no benefit to the 260 apart from giving him an excuse to jack up the price more.

Not this exact model but given enough time we will see 15TB SSDs at affordable prices. It'll probably be a long time though.

Much what I reckon as well though if you'd asked me a few years ago, I would have guessed we'd be at larger common HD capacities by now as well (where as with SSD's taking the wind out of the sails for that selling point, we reached "big enough" and more or less stalled). I guess we'll see in a few years where we've gotten to and if something new has trumped the point of huge SSDs.

do they actually hope to sell that POS?
I am more then aware that on adverts you need to add about 10-20% of the price you actually want to get to your asking, as everyone is going to attempt to drive you down.
But even half of what he is looking for would be overpriced! lol

Have noticed a few of the same sellers buying various parts, to building complete machines and then selling them on.
Might example the odd GPU combo and RAM amount, its a Frankenstein of various components.
Seems like a lot of effort to make a small profit and with the added risk of getting hardware that is only going down in price.

    oh well, "glws"
