Hi. I have a friend moving to live in Cork City centre but who will be likely to be in Cobh two or three days a week. He asked me for advice so I suggested using the train. He has a car but just checking that I'm right in suggesting the train? Is there a monthly ticket or would it be better to buy daily tickets if it's just two days a week? Thanks.

Buying individual returns is a lot cheaper (Category D)

Ideally a taxsaver ticket with Irish rail. the employer deducts the price of the ticket from the gross salary (pretax). saves between 22 - 52% depending on tax band.

Example : my ticket from Midleton costs €80. because it comes from my gross wages it actually costs me around €40 per month.
