So are there many sticking it out with windows 7 with the free upgrade deadline looming for windows 10? Still not sure I want to move main desktop onto it just yet, have it on the laptop already. Going to upgrade, and then roll back so that if I want to upgrade to to win10 later I still have the option

Im happy enough with the new windows, for work reasons however i will stick with win7 for as long as i can.

The only thing is I'm still not sure why they have split settings into two different places (PC settings/control panel). Always seem to end up in the wrong place when looking for something.

Its only missing a paper clip popping up with a speech bubble "this is not the PC settings/control panel you are looking for" followed by a Jedi hand wave

If you game, go to Windows 10. DX12 will not be coming to anything else.

Windows 10 is still a mess but it's not fatal like it was on windows 8. Sorry I actually misread your post and though you asked 'why'. I hear you on work related stuff - windows 7 is still the best OS MS ever produced IMHO.

Why they don't just have a windows 10 desktop edition for us weirdos not using touch screens is beyond me. I think I was using 10 for a year or more before I realised it was right click on the start button for control panel etc.

I use Win10 with classic start installed. It's pretty much identical to Win7 when used this way and much better than Win8.

Using something like HWMonitor check the voltage of the 3.3V, maybe the replacement battery you used is not firing on all cylinders??
Did you use the same battery model? usually a CR2032.

Yeah, same battery. Its not cheap ****, it's proper energizer I got in tesco. If battery would be that bad, it would **** up all the settings and clocks I guess.
I took out ram and putted in back in. Looks like it shows proper 8gb now. As o checked even in benchmarks I did before it showed only one module that I did not noticed then. Now I did benchmark and it shows both modules. Today after work I'll turn it on and see if it worked.
Ddr3 ram is not that cheap now. Again, it might be ram ****ed or mobo. I don't want to change ram and then see that mobo is dead and I will need the brand new holy trio of ram, cpu and mobo.

I decided to bite the bullet and try the upgrade yesterday (win 7 pro to win 10 pro). The upgrade-in-place option sort of worked but I was getting a lot of weird problems. Rolled back to win 7 and did a clean install of windows 10, which went very smooth. Of course that meant I reformatted my C drive so I had to re-install all my applications from scratch.

I was in the middle of playing through AC Unity when I did the upgrade so that's the first game I re-installed. There's something wrong with it under win 10, it crashes to desktop 90% of the time when I try to resume my game. But randomly 10% of the time it plays no problem!

I assume 3 year warrenty? I'd say you'll get 700 easy, though that's just a shot in the dark. I'm assuming somewhere around €1000 new so I may be undervaluing it tbh. Probably closer to 800.

Its 833 euro new on overclockers so I think 700 is a bit of a stretch unfortunately

If your popping it onto Adverts, stick it in as 1000 and take 700. Might as well join in the fun there.

Out of desperation you agree to such an awful trade just to get rid of it. Then they don't show up as agreed.

Wow, that's really cheap on overclockers, everywhere I looked had it at good deal more than that. It's out of stock and end of line on most sites though so that price may have been a "get it out the door" price to shift the last of the stock. Agree with those above, stick it up high and look for 700. You can easily talk about the quality and that there are no dead pixels/backlight bleed etc.

What are you replacing a beast like that with?

I paid €600 for a Dell U3415W so I think around that as I got a bargain. UW have come down quite a bit,m as have monitor in general which really suprised me recently. 27" 1440p monitors are now really good value, bit of a change from the catleap days!

I don't think it's a great idea to overprice things on adverts by a huge margin, it discourages genuine buyers and encourages feckin' eejits. Obviously have some play in price. If you're willing to accept €600 price it maybe as high as €700 but check adverts and done deal for similar monitors and undercut - to a point you're willing to accept.

I don't understand why people get so shirty about low ballers/idiots swapping. The first is someone who's interested, just try and get them to come up, the latter are just amusing. Politely decline. If you're getting a lot of traction on the ad and people can see you're active just ignore them. If swaps really annoy you simply select no swaps and ignore anyone asking.

In fairness it is very annoying. I did a mistake putting my blob wrx subaru on adverts. The **** I was offered for straight swaps was just ridiculous.
I sold gpu and monitor on adverts, but I had both of them priced very very reasonable and they went very fast and for price I wanted.
adverts have both breeds: sellers who sell stuff for loony prices and get offended with realistic offers and buyers, who just offer stupid offers.

On other topic: looks like I sorted my issue with pc. Its does not throw message of mew ram or cpu anymore and sees proper 8gb of ram.
Before work I tried to overclocker my 1060. Just put it randomly up by 100MHz to 2100MHz core and 4200MHz ram. Its stable and Unigen benchmark went from 1650 to 1750. Voltage is locked on the card so don't expect anything more.
Might after work play a bit more with it.

Hey SH, where did you get your 1060 from and in what guise? I'm given serious consideration to purchasing one in the near future.

Im getting the Acer 34-Inch X34A Predator instead.

Im going to put the LG 34UC97 on adverts soon.

Anyone interested in buying it, send me a pm. Save me the hassle of adverts please.

Any reasonably priced ultra wide 144hz or higher monitors out there? I've kind of given up on 4k for the time being :D

2560 by 1080 there are a few. I don't think there are any 1440p UW at 144Hz - they tend to be 34" panels.

I got from overclockers. I know I went with 1060, but I would recommend going with rx480 with third party cooler. Unfortunately I needed asap gpu as my died so I went with 1060. Don't go with gigabyte G1, because voltage is locked... I learned it hard way.
Good temptretures though, never sow it go pass 68.

UW is the absolute biz for the games that support it - mostly first person shooters and racing games, but I found that there was an irritating amount of games that didn't support it, so you had to play with black bars or a stretched image. I got rid of mine for that reason - beautiful monitors and the UW is the optimal experience in my opinion, but the broad support just isn't there. All well and good to say that 'most' games support it, but it's a massive pain in the arse when you find out that the latest AAA title doesn't support it, and that happened me once too often.

yeah might drive me nuts alright jumping from a 4k monitor that i cant run games at the level i want to a monitor that isnt supported by the games i want to play :pac: all these monitor options are getting a bit much these days!
guess a nice 27inch 144hz 1440p monitor would suit my needs perfectly, was looking at the crossovers but there a bit meh.

In my opinion, 27" 1440p is the sweet spot where you can rely on having superb visuals at relatively high res. Ultrawide would be prefered if it was universally supported, but it's not, it's too unreliable. When it works, it's incredible, but just too many AAA titles not supporting it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

Why get rid of a good UW monitor because of lack of support? Wouldn't it be better to play some games UW than none at all? What's so bad about black bars on the side? It's either that or the wall behind your setup. I always check up to see if games have framerate issues on pcgamingwiki.com before I invest in them just so I know they've bothered to make the best use out of my 120Hz. But just because many games have issues (either fixable or not) wouldn't make me go back to 60Hz. I'd just not play those games or deal with the fact that they're bug out or whatever their particular issues was, either by fixing or compromise. Often just capping them to 60 via their conifgs or GPU CP etc.

Or if I don't think they're very good games to begin with, framerate issues just assures me I shouldn't even bother buying them. (hello Bethesda)
