Thanks greasepaint, thought the same but appreciate you confirming what I was thinking.

Be careful there are different configurations as the last 2 tuners are plug n play. The DVB-C tuners are normally hybrid DVB-C/T2 tuners, meaning they do both cable and terrestrial. You pick dvb-t2 in the configuration menu on the image. BUT Xtrend do a specific DVB-C tuner for the 7500/8500 series. These are about €10 cheaper than the hybrid tuner. They are no good for Saorview. So dont buy off that link.

    Here

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xtrend-8500-2x-DVB-S2-DVB-C/dp/B00SHQDLV4/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A25XTIRIYQOTFK

Is £214 and is definitely the config that you were looking for.

and here is the Amazon germany link where you can actually choose the config (€279)

    https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00SHQDLV4/ref=twister_dp_update?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The UK site is about €20 cheaper because of sterling at the moment.

Thanks STB. Ordered the first item, cancelled it (hope seller handles the request okay), then ordered the second linked one per your recommendation.

Very good of you to suggest second link. Thanks all.

What would be the equivalent to the Amiko Alien 2 Triple tuner on sale now?

You do realise that these Aliens are Sh4 boxes ?

MIPS boxes like the VU/Xtrend/Gigablue/TM etc have Broadcom chips and the requisite suite of OE alliance images, unlike Amiko boxes which are ported versions of E2.

€114.56 for twin tuner with "boards.ie" coupon discount. (7.5% discount)

One of these for 6 euro makes it a triple tuner with dtt.

This combination works perfectly with VIX image.

Lads looking for a new toy. I've had vu zero, vu Solo 2.

Just sold my vu zero. Thinking of a vu duo 2 but can't justify the price.
I want an original box not clone with vix support.
It's basically for me so won't need to twin tuner as it'll be for live viewing.
Was looking at the xtrend et 8500 with sat and cable tuner?
The box will be going in kitchen that has a sat cable and a virgin media cable to it.
    Budget max €200

What about the gigablue hd ultra which is 178 pounds on world of satellite. There is also the gigablue hd x3 which is 148.

I have the xtrend 8000 and find it very good but I'm personally not nad on the physical appearance of the 8500.

(I can't seem to post links on the phone app)

When you say perfectly ,how well does the external tuner perform ?
Is it just like the internal tuners or temperamental.
I know from experience that usb tuners on other receivers like the Dreambox 800 were flakey.

Thanks a million for this tip. Got one for my father and loaded it with openvix and skyQ skin and really happy with this box. Compares well with my Vu Solo SE and Solo2. Waiting for the usb tuner to arrive and wondering how to use both usb tuner and hdd at the same time? Is that possible?

i have a vu turbo tuner and in setting up on sat box will require drivers downloaded from plugins first and box rebooted for usb to be used,i presume you can set recordings to internal or external drive once setup correctly.

What are people's opinion on the Gigablue HD quad plus? I'm looking to upgrade from an F5s and would like something with a lot more functionality, extra tuners etc. The Vu Duo is more than I'd like to spend so the Gigablue caught my eye as it can be got for around 300 euro with the standard two sat tuners and the addition of a DVB-C2/T2/S2 tuner.

Really my questions are how good is the box and is it worth the extra money over a box like the xtrend's etc being discussed. To be honest there are so many boxes being discussed here its hard to compare them.

Also a general (and possibly silly question) on these boxes with both sat and terrestrial I assume its possible to interleave the sat and terrestrial and have them on the same epg, channel list etc (same as they would be on a sky sub?)

The Xtrend Et10000 is a slightly better receiver than the Gigablue HD Plus and its cheaper .
It can do everything the Quad plus can do .
Its basically the same spec as the Vu Duo 2,but the sd picture quality is better .

Yes ,its very easy to do that on any linux box.

Thanks it looks a good box alright.

Am I missing something or is the black one 100 euro more just for the colour? I'd prefer black but to save 100 euro white would be fine :pac:

Also I assume its the DVB-C/T2 HYBRID TUNER (as you linked) that's required for saorview.

The only difference seems to be the colour yes.

    Yes ,that is correct.
STB has highlighted the fact earlier in the thread that the DVB-C tuner wont work for Saorview you need the DVB-C/T2 HYBRID tuner.

Its a user interface from Chababu
    http://forums.openpli.org/topic/41643-skyq-v14-skin/

try at your own risk as may cause crashes if not fully compatible with your receiver.

You can select english language in the initial setup when you first boot the receiver.

The more I read the more I'm worried about pulling my hair out and spending long hours trying to figure out this Xtrend et10k box. Will I need to flash an image on it or will whatever's pre-installed be sufficient? Has anyone here set up one up successfully?

I have set up a few boxs and its straight forward.Plenty of posters here will be willing to give you help.
Few lads here were a great help for me when I started looking into this 3 years ago.

Flashing an image isn't a big job tbh.If I were you I would start doing some research for when the box arrives.WoS and linuxsat have loads of info.

Anyone got a gigablue ultra HD 800 Ue box?
I've had a few vu boxes and looking for something new.

HM sat has it for €202 delivered with a sat tuner and a Dvb-C/T tuner.

Seems a decent price for a middle of the road box.
    Anyone any opinions on it?
