But will there be anything to come back too, I think Newstalk are in big trouble this time with all the changes. None stand out that make me want to tune in.

What's the alternative? I'm going to listen to a news channel. It's either RTE or Newstalk, and Hook, Coleman, Donohue, Healy et al will continue to out perform RTE. I just can't see myself switching to RTE.

I put on a podcast this morning, couldn't face RTE.

Enjoyed yesterdays show with Coleman and Ciaran ?, both were efficient and handled the running order without issues, much like morning Ireland. All this week the one thing that thankfully has been lacking has been Ivan's and Chris' attempts at jocular banter, which should never have been encouraged as they were cringworthy.

Listened to a bit of Coleman & Nora Owen this morning.
    My Jaysus.
It was painful to listen to.
Who decided (ages ago) that Owen would be a good shout for radio presenter?
Left me crying out for Ivan & Chris's "jocular banter".

I think Nora was trying to be the Ivan this morning with her lack of anything pop culture.

I like Coleman. Prefer him over Ivan every time

Who in their right mind thought Nora was a good choice as presenter? It's so boring monotone it would put you back to sleep. Cop on Newstalk.

Nora Owen talking about revenge porn now. jaysus.

oh good jesus i dont want to even KNOW.

Thank god i switched off after the business show. im actually coming to the opinion that newstalk have her on to LOWER expectations so when the new show starts it sounds fresh.

I'm giving her a chance I'm been as open minded as I can but Nora is not my cup of tea. Think she boring & bland! Just not convinced
Morning drive not as good now

They should have used Cuddihy and Coleman as the starting point and then try start road testing a few other presenters.

terrible show without Ivan and Chris - and now that George is leaving the evenings as well, it means newstalk is totally destroying my drives.

Looks like this 'revamp' will see a ratings collapse. Wonder will DOB's patience finally run out when he sees the figures.

I know Ivan gone for long term holidays but what happened to Chris, is he gone also or just this week off. Its not same show with out Ivan.

Big Newstalk listener here and I'm disappointed with the new line up.

Given a choice I would fire the following:
Chris O'Donohoe, Jonathan Healy, Ger Gilroy and Dil Wickremasinghe

Why isn't Cuddihy doing all the shows with Coleman? Seriously, he's the difference between me listening and switching off instantly now because Nora Owen has outstayed her welcome for me...

    Oh Lordy.

So Rith Coppinger (sp?) belives using the term "pocket money" in relation to Au Pairs is, and I quote "extremely sexist".

This is the best example of PC gone mad I've ever heard.

Glad Shane pulled her up on it, I wasn't sure if i was hearing (stupid) things.

Coppinger really needs to change her bad attitude. I've never heard such a negative person on the airwaves. Could imagine coming home to that every evening, she would drain every piece of enthusiasm for life right out of you.

I don't think her Christian name is spelled 'Rith'...

Now that I think, she'd probably object to the term 'Christian name' as some sort of patriarchal Eurocentric jargon...

Absolutely agree. I don't know how Coleman didn't lamp Nora Owen - she kept cutting across him even on stuff she knew nothing about.

I think Coleman is excellent and Cuddihy has a lot of potential. I like Ivan and Chris but could quite happily listen to Coleman/Cuddihy on a permanent basis (even though that's not the plan).

Impressed with Ciaran Cuddihy so far. Coleman just irks me and Nora Owen is shockingly bad. Who thought this was a good idea? I saw Chris in Dun Laoghaire a few days ago. Have they given him 2 months off??

Giving him time to prepare for the new show maybe?

    Maybe she's not a Christian?

    Mod:

Moved some posts over to the NT Reshuffle thread. Try to keep discussion of the state of NT as a whole and its future over there and keep this thread on the topic of the Breakfast show.

    Cheers folks. :)

dunno if its cause the comparison is owen but cuddihy does indeed come off as a better fit with shane.

banter alone is a step up.

    Newstalk has form here.

Ivan Yates, David McWilliams, George Hook, Nora Casey, Bobby Kerr.

I'm sure there are others I've forgotten. Some of them actually realise that they're not right for the role and do the right thing. Some of them improve, and some of them just stay crap.

There's also the idea that newspaper journalists somehow make good presenters. Look what happens when Mick Clifford gets a go at the mic on his own.

It seems that the only training in broadcast journalism is done by RTE.

Makes perfect sense from a marketing point of view. If you're bringing in a new presenter, how else are you going to get added value beyond having Joe Bloggs behind the mike except by getting someone with a bit of profile. You could have some kid fresh out of DIT whose like the new Jeremy Paxman, but it'll take years before that talent makes any impression on the ratings...

She was my local councillor for a long time. Never had I dealt with a more unpleasant person. Everything you mailed the constituencies councillors about had an agenda according to her. It got to the point where myself and residents association just removed her from the local councillors mailing list.

Newstalk seem to have an endless amount of these liberal, soft spoken, inoffensive, meek presenters. Can I quote Robbie Keane from one of Newstalk's own promo "What do you want in a presenter, somebody who has b*lls". Give us somebody with an opinion, that is all that we ask for Newstalk, no another one of these afraid of his own shadow types.

Seriously man, almost every day you're at it with the "liberal" presenters. What do you want? Daily Mail FM? My problem with them is that they're just boring - that's got f*** all to do with their politics. I would have thought with 10 hours a week of Hooks incoherent railings you were pretty well catered for.
