It's been a poor tournament and one of the teams most responsible for bringing the standard of football down has won. Very disappointing.

    Well done Portgal.

Proving you are a good team without Ronaldo.

I think they were better without him.

Rui Patricio and a bit of fortune won it. Goes to show if you don't take your chances then anything can happen.

    thank **** that's over.
one of the worst tournaments over, with one of the worst winning teams ever.
can't wait for the REAL football to start back again.

Fair play to Portugal their defence was generally excellent. It's not their fault Greizmann missed a sitter.

3rd placed group stage team goes on to win the tournament. Could call it a success for the new tournament format.

I think this might be better if I took my shirt off

Well done to Portugal. France undone by a dodgy handball decision that caused Koscielny to get wrongly carded so he didn't have the scope to foul Eder before he scored.

Say what you like, he was player of tye tournament.

He would definitely be in my team of the tournament...say what you like tho.

Coman and Martial both poor enough, Pogba likewise though playing deeper than he'd like Payet was poor, Giroud was poor, Griezmann marked out of it.

Portugal deserved it for their obduracy, Ronaldo going off may actually have been the best thing to happen to them - had to play compact and be more clever and patient

Yeah I reckon Martial was the worst player out there alright

Delighted for the players in the end. I wanted them out a couple of games ago but they won me over since then.

Portugal have gone and done a Greece, delighted!

Fair ****s to Portugal. Delighted for them. Been impressive enough throughout the tournament. A couple of flare players and organised as ****.

France have been underwhelming the whole tournament and Deschamps has hindered them with his selections and tactics.

Delighted for Portugal, it's nice to see a new name on the trophy. Purges the bad memories of '04 a bit. Very happy for Ronaldo too. International success is the icing on the cake for his career.

Says it all about the tournament that the eventual winners won just one game on their way to lifting the trophy.

Might be blasphemous to say this, but Portugal probably played better when himself went off.......

Justice you'd say. A victory for football, first the story of Leicester and now Ronaldo and his Portuguese brethren. The greatest footballer of his generation finally adds a major international trophy to his haul
