There wasn't really need for a daily pod after the group stages/maybe last 16. Especially not now that there are only three games left over a week, they'd only be spinning their wheels.

I'd happily listen to a podcast called "Early in the Matin" - which would be a daily update of Ken's daily struggles with life as he makes his way around France, passively aggressively robbing seats on public transport, losing his luggage and breaking his phone/tablet/laptop in interesting ways.

Is Ken still in France? They should send him up to a couple of stages of the Tour de France....would be interested to hear his take on it.

I take back what I said and wholeheartedly endorse Early in the Matin.

Nah, he said on Twitter that he was in Dublin. I doubt the Irish Times wanted to fund his stay there too much longer, as entertaining as that would be for us.

Who else to the IT have out there? Is Emmet Malone there?

In re today's sports episode and Eoin wearing the GSW t-shirt:

I have listened to 99% of Second Captains podcasts since its inception in May 2013. I also listened to a decent chunk of the lads on OTB between 2010 and 2013. For this reason, I'm a little embarrassed to say that I don't know what football club Ken supports. Is it bad that I don't know this? I don't think it's too obvious.

At least I know Eoin and Murph support Man Utd. At a guess I'd say Ken supports Arsenal?

Liverpool, I was told. Hides it well, in fairness, he's an equal opportunities ire merchant.

At this stage of the competition it just seems to be Emmet Malone.

Was today the first time the dreaded words 'off the ball' were mentioned in the podcast?

It crops up the odd time.... it's always amusing though.

Didn't sound like Richie was doing it deliberately, or that he even noticed...

When MON and Roy Keane were first hired (remember the portmanteau Monkeano?) as the Ireland management team, Emmet Malone was being interviewed. I think the discussion focused on performance related bonuses or possibly termination payments for MON and Keane, but Malone said "Sure you guys know what it's like working for Denis O'Brien more than me!". I would have loved to see the faces of the various Second Captains members in the seconds after the comment was made :pac:

Eoin has mentioned OTB a number of times on the show to be fair. He often references hearing an interview they've done or some such.

Murph was on point during the Ronaldo talk at the beginning of the Football pod. "You're just saying he's a twat?" :pac:

Just saw a tweet from Emmet Malone, said he's off duty in Paris and Paddy Agnew is in Marseille

Oh right, I thought they used to occasionally allude to the former show but never actually used the words 'OTB' or Newstalk.

Anyway I was just amused that the expression cropped up in its conventional sense, and thought there was a moment's froideur in the studio...

They don't do it that often, but it kinda sticks out to me anyway, when they do.

I actually remember them referring to Wooly on OTB by name before.

I;d say the animosity between second captains and OTB is gone at this stage. I've seen the second captains lad tweeting to some of the OTB peeps from time-to-time sure...

This was only the other day, Cian Murtagh gets involved in conversation (posting mainly because it's hilarious)

I don't think there ever was animosity between them, with the possible exception of the second captains and Gilroy. There's been absolutely no contact between them and him on twitter since. Which I suspect could be down to him being sports editor at the time, so in effect part of management.

Gilroy talked about it on the The Irishman abroad podcast. His version was that he wasn't involved in the decision and really he had no input to the decision(s) taken.

What was the setup of the presenting team in the early days, was it just Gilroy and Ken?

I remember Ken saying in the interview with the Arseblog fella last year that Gilroy devised the format and went to Newstalk with it, they were friends in college, so without Gilroy the show wouldn't have existed in the first place.

Well, I'm still having trouble getting the regular podcast on Podcast Republic. The football ones are coming through fine, but the last two regular sports podcasts are not appearing on my list. I'll try a few more unsubscribe/subscribe cycles, maybe.

The lads have mentioned the Off the Ball show a few times, they've mentioned Nathan Murphy and Joe Molloy also, for example Ken mentioned Nathan Murphy asking a question at a press conference.

Eoin also said he was listening to some interview or piece onOff the Ball a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think there was any animosity between Gilroy and the lads. The day they left and Gilroy was called in he gave a heartfelt message about how he'd miss his friends.

I spoke to a member of the OFf the Ball team a number of months ago and he said they'd still chat at times but it wasn't really the same since they left. Which is natural enough I guess.

I'm also not getting the ordinary podcasts on Podcast Republic. It's a little irritating.

That Timbuktu audio montage is in my opinion the best one they have done. It brings me infinite joy whenever it gets played. George Hamilton imitating the "Maggie Thatcher, your boys took one hell of a beating," is just fantastic.

I gave up on Podcast Republic a few months ago after I lost patience with bugs, specifically with resuming from last place on stopped streamed pods.

Been using Podcast Addicts since. The UI is ugly and a touch unintuitive, but I find it much more stable than Podcast Republic.

Im getting all episodes no problem

Only issue ive ever had with podcast Republic is when all episodes of certain podcasts are marked unplayed and start downloading over again. Not sure if thats he app or the podcast itself as it happened on a couple of differwnt apps too.

Has happened on iTunes too. Second Captains, Football Weekly and Complete Guide to Everything all downloaded all their episodes at once for me before. Luckily I wasn't at home on the capped internet at the time! :P

He met Haddaway during Euro 2008, as far as I recall Ken said he was carrying 60 thousand euro in a suitcase.

They mentioned this on Thursday, just in case any of ye who started listening after that thought I was pulling the piss.

I hope they send Ken to the Olympics again, I remember on his first newsround back from London he said he found it to be plastic and false and he was eulogising the gritty cynicism of the Premier League.

    Mod:

Actually, if we could keep this thread for the podcast stuff, and keep discussion of the radio show over on the specific thread, I'd appreciate it. I'll move the previous posts relating to the show over momentarily.

Thread can be found here -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057620209

    Cheers.
