New DVD recorders hard to find ?

    My LG RHT497H DVD recorder recently died and Im looking for a replacement but its proving very hard to find.

    The only models I can find are some rather expensive Panasonics which don't appear to have video input sockets (meaning I cant record from my Freesat box)

    Why is nobody selling DVD recorders these days ?

    As an alternative I had a look for a device that can record from DTT and/or an analogue composite video feed to a USB memory stick (without needing a PC) but sich a device does not appear to exist either.

    Richersounds in Belfast still have this with scart input

    Humax also make good Freesat Boxes with inbuilt recorder to HDD, no DVD but there are ways of getting it onto a pc.

    The Freetime bit won't work without a UK IP address so you would need to check if that impacts on the recorder in any way ( may affect the tv guide)

    Panasonic machine looks nice but pricey :-(

    Apologies, Humax seem to have dropped the USB and DLNA feature with latest machines.

    Below is a recorder for sale - seems to be new in box.
    I have one myself since 2009, same model, probably one of the best DVD/HDD recorders of it's time. A "real" Sony before their quality went downhill.
    Note the terrestrial inputs will be no good for you ( not the Saorview spec) unless you have a Freeview signal from the UK but scart will work perfectly for your needs.

    I'm wondering is the scarcity of new devices capable of long term storage the result of Hollywood bringing some kind of pressure on equipment manufacturers ?

    Since the advent of home video in the mid-1970's Hollywood has been doing their damndest to stop consumers from having this ability.
