Exactly. And to be honest, any golfer worth his salt would not make that excuse, it'd be pretty pathetic. Its tournament golf, he is responsible for his own play, nobody to blame but himself.

I agree. But having a partner who's playing badly doesn't help. Apart from not being able to learn from your partner's approach shots, it can slow down the tempo of play and be a distraction. But that's 'rub of the green' and you have to take the bad with the good.

The lads must be making some dough on those corporate events, can't understand why they feel the need to organise or attend events the day after a major.

I know but what an awful day to organise it for.

Not a sponsor as such, it was a corporate day for a Chinese Airline who don't sponsor any of them afaik. It was a once off event.
I'm sure the money was right for them. Nearly all of them were heading back this side of the Atlantic anyway, just maybe not jumping straight on a flight.

You can be pretty sure that sponsorship was on the agenda.

not sure if anyone saw this article by Kieran shannon from the Examiner.

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/columnists/kieran-shannon/a-lesson-for-nice-guy-shane-lowry-you-just-have-to-get-fitter-406082.html

What a really poor piece of writing from a gaa correspondent. Lowry retweeted it and reading it, it just makes me really angry.

I suppose he would've told the same to Angel Cabrera after he won the Masters in 2009? Nonsense 'journalism'.

    From the article:

"Does he really commit and put himself in the best possible position to contend in five of the next 12 majors and possibly win two, or does he hope to maybe be in position in two of them and look to luck out in one of them? That’s the choice he has."

How does he come up with such nonsense. If he came on here I'd be hoping Keano had the ban hammer ready.

    McIlroy had a much worse collapse at the 2011 Masters and a couple of months later won his first major;
Shane has played 14 majors, last year was the first time as a pro that he played all 4 - He missed the cut in 3 of them and had a top 10 in the US Open
Of the 14 it's 6 missed cuts, 3 top 10's and 5 other money finishes.

To expect him to all of a sudden "contend" in 5 of the next 12 and win 2 is pie in the sky stuff. I am sure he has a Major win as a target, just as making the Ryder cup team would be a Target. Since winning the WGC last year those 2 would seem to be the obvious next steps, but expecting him to become a multiple major winner in the next 3 years??

"An intervention" - What an absolute tool. Perhaps Kieran Shannon was one of the posters on here Sunday night.

Slightly off topic.... has anyone seen Jason Dufner be in contention of late? Nope... me either. Losing all that weight hasn't done him much good has it? Sure.. he finished T8 at the weekend but he is not even close to being back at the level he once was, before the weight loss.

If fairness Dufner has had a lot of problems off the course in his personal life with divorce and rumours around that divorce etc.

I'd put that down to his poor form more so than his weight loss at the moment.

If I could 'ban' that journalist I would! Perhaps he got most that article from the trolls around here!

Winning majors is tough, very tough. Anyone that know anything about Golf would agree it is tougher mentally than physically.

I know Shane's S&C coach well and that is exactly what he is a strength and conditioning coach. Shane is now hitting the ball further, his body is stronger, he doesn't suffer with any injuries or niggles that he had before. It is a long term plan.

People might not think it but he does put the work in. Sometimes though it is just hard to alter peoples perception.

Good article from Shane reflecting on the weekend.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/golf/shane-lowry-experience-will-put-a-fire-in-my-belly-for-the-next-time-1.2695366

    Interesting this..
At the time, I didn’t think the whole rules thing affected me at all but, looking back on it, perhaps it did. I thought I was two behind with three to play, when I was on the 16th tee, and really I was only one behind him.

Dufner won on tour back in February or March. Tournament that's held in Palm Springs. He was very poor last year but improved a lot this year.

Lowry is out of the Olympics, threat of Zika virus is clearly an issue for these young men.

    I'm still in with a chance then:p
I presume I wouldn't have to bring my own Pro V's to this thing?

Can have no arguments with his decision.

He is very rich, is a young family man, so why take the risk?

if it was me, and they said the risk was 0.37% I wouldn't bother with it.
