Can't blame him for that. Ref isn't meant to allow play to continue with teo balls on the field.
He didn't bring a second ball onto the pitch, it was already there, so the throw in should have been re-taken.

    It was stupid and unneccesary.

Looking forward to hear what dunphy has to say.... So no time for a brew!!

I'd have sent Hendrix ;) off for that :pac:

Shane Long is going to get sent off, he is full of attitude aimed at the wrong people while Lukaku seems to be wearing lead boots.

Anyone on the bench that could come on for that Hendricks fella?

Maybe someone will notice Belgium have a 12th man on the pitch for the second half.

I'm a fan of long but he is fouling too much and head dropping lots of hopeful balls but some bad touch's also, the defence have been rock solid great credit to Clark too.

I don't see Keane or ONeil on sidelines asking WTF
Clearly a game plan to restrict the space and get men behind the ball.
    This is tactical .
Need to improve it when we have it though. Wishful thinking passes need to be turned into precise passes, if its not on why play it. Need to be certain of those final balls.

    Stupid by Hendrik

Extremely stupid and deliberate. Sensing a lot of indiscipline in the Irish team and the ref is catching all the pushes and deliberate fouls. I'd say he could not wait to blow for half time.

Is there anything we can do about this awful ref? He is clearly favoriting Belgium

Is that why he didn't book Long there?

Can I just say Belgium are absolutely poison, win this or not. They have zero imagination whatsoever, we are bad but jesus that is the least nerve wracking game I've ever watched Ireland in, second best team in the world they are not.

completed passes by us would be in the single digits?

fair play to the lads so far they are busting their balls in defence

Not looking forward to another 45 minutes of this. You have to figure there's a goal here for Belgium.

Ref is gonna fúck us over

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

The booking by Hendricks was idiotic, fair enough if there was another ball on the field but refs use their discretion with that if it can be cleared quickly. The linesman ran on and took a ball off the field in yesterdays match. What did Hendrick expect to happen after he kicked another ball into where play was going on? He could get booked later for another tackle and be sent off absolutely needlessly. I wish players would think for a split second sometimes.

De Bruyne is simply not being marked tight enough and is clearly their danger man

The ref hasn't been that bad.

Exactly. Even looking at how long we were taking over throw-ins and goal kicks it looks like the tactic is not to concede and hope the Belgians lose belief as the game goes on. If we are 0-0 at 70 mins and i think we have a chance

They need to change something anyway. We are far too tepid on the ball if we ever go beyond our half. Need some aggression and McClean would offer that. Sadly Hoolahan doesnt suit this type of game and can see him lasting merely 60 minutes.

They've been impressive going forward but haven't actually troubled our goal too much.

Hopefully they start to lose belief and our lads get a good rollicking at half time.

This is the promised land of tournament football.
It would be better to fast forward to full time than to watch us get taken apart in the second half.
All the talk of Belgium being a bunch of individuals who can't play together has to be consigned to the bin at this stage, we're making them look a good side here. They should be at least two up, like euro 2012 all over again, just a matter of time before the goals start going in for Belgium.

McClean on for Hoolahan in the second half.

Don't think McClean would last 5 minutes. Can't see that ref approving of his 'robust' style of play.

    It was stupid and unneccesary.

He hadnt heard the whistle and was out of position due to the 2nd ball being on the pitch when Belgium took the throw, it gave Belgium an advantage so ref messed up

We did not play great there lets hope the the second half is better. I do have to say the Belgium do seem to be quite a good team but they are not perfect either. I think second half we need to come out attack quick and score quick. Would or should M.O.N make some changes?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I thought McCarthy did fine. It's a bit silly to bemoan the fact that the central midfielders aren't having a lot of the ball when the full-backs have been instructed to play it long every chance they get. Coleman has been poor with his passes. Ward has been better.

We need Hoolahan to link the play better with Long as he didn't make the most of the knock-ons that Long provided.

The gameplan is to hang in there and try to nick a goal on the counter, or set-piece.
