[Original problem solved.. new one now]

Trying to set up Internet Connection Sharing on a Win2k machine. Only has ONE client, a Win98 laptop.

ICS is enabled on the Win2k machine. When I enable it, it gives a message "the IP will be changed to 192.168.0.1..." (which is what it already is) and warns me that network connections might be lost. It advises me to set the client up to be automatically assigned an IP, so I do.

I reboot both machines and when they're both back up, they can't see each other on the network anymore and the client can't access the net thru ICS, which is what I want.

What am I doing wrong? :]

    Ta...

looks like you are rebooting them at same time, your win2k machine has to be running in order to allocate dynamic ip address to your w9x machine
try typing in winipcfg at the prompt (start-run, on win98 machine) (make sure the other machine is running)
you should see your ip settings, (you might have to choose you lan card from dropdown menu, if you have multiple instances of them), you should also see a button renew/renew all, try clicking on it, by default ICS settings you should get something like 192.168.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0, if you do try pinging 192.168.1.1.

on the 98 machine, set static Ip's. Dont use the Dhcp crap. Set IP for the 98 machine as 192.168.0.10 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and Dns server as 194.125.133.10 and default gateway as 192.168.0.1

set internet explorer to use Lan for internet connection. If I am using ICS, I usually do not enable dial on demand on the win2k machine, just my preferance. After you've set the static IP, go into msdos and try ping the win2k machine, then try ping 194.125.133.10

...Dns server as 194.125.133.10 and default gateway as 192.168.0.1

I'm curious why you have the DNS server as 194.125.133.10, shouldn't it be 192.168.0.1 - the same as the default gateway?

the ICS machine acts as DNS proxy not as server, 194.125.133.10 is an ip address of indigo's DNS server, it could as well be 192.111.39.1 for esat or 159.134.237.6 for Eircom you can use any of them but using the DNS server of you ISP usually results in less hops

Gah, tried suggestions from here and elsewhere with no success. Even tried using Sygate Home Thingy and even that didn't work.

I'ma thinking my Win98 installation is screwed tbh.

    Thanks anyway lads.
