When the powerbook starts up it does not load the os, it displays a floppy logo with the "?" in the middle. I have be told this is a "sad mac". what do you think?

Are you running OS X? Try restarting and holding down Command-S. Then follow the instructions in the last line. That will do a disk repair. It's also possible that your system software is corrupted.

What OS are you using? 9? 10? Your system is probably corrupt and needs reinstalling. Hopefully your backup is up to date, because the drive could be going in a machine of this age...

Have you changed the System disk it boots into by any chance?? As in pointed it to boot from a cd or something like that. If that doesn't exist that screen will come up.

    If that is the case....

Try holding down the Alt key while you start up the computer. It should give you an option to boot into the OS.

    Hope that helps ...

    Otherwise not sure...

    Rgds,
    A.
