Dunno, but I often wonder if he made it as a professional goalkeeper.

Al Pacino in the Godfather trilogy would be my one, can't think of anyone else at the moment.

The invisible 6 foot rabbit called Harvey in Harvey!

Or else Jimmy Stewart for the same film.

Its a bitch of question really cause there is so much to pick from you could say Halle Berry for Monster Ball, although the film sucked the big one.

Charles Dance. Any of his films.

al pacino in scarface, superb bit of acting

Pacino gets mentioned a lot (recent C4 poll etc.) but if you've seen Simone then you'll probably agree he can't do comedy (De Niro can of course...)

Best acting performance 4 me is Klaus Kinski in either Aguirre - Wrath of God or Fitzcaraldo.

Not that Kinski is a funny guy or anything... :)

Gary Oldman is a fantastic actor, I think his perfomance in state of grace was amazing.

Hugh O'Connor who played young christy is still acting .. here is his filmography.

He's still around, the last thing I remember him being in was The Young Poisoners Handbook. The other great role he had was in Lamb with liam Neeson.

Best acting by an animated chracter has to be Andy Serkis' Gollum/Smeagol in LOTR: The Two Towers.

Bogart, Stewart and Hopkins for most of their stuff.

Too broad to narrow it down.

Tough question, one that springs to mind is Leonardo Di Caprio in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape?

Not that good a movie but an amazing performance.

Hmmm....I'm trying to recall which Robert Duvall performance told me he was true class........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Harrison Ford- it just wouldn't have been Indiana Jones with anyone else.

I understand the guy who played Chewie in Star Wars has something of a cult following...:)

Samuel L Jackson in A Time To Kill was class.

    His best performance,apart from,of course,XXX and Die Hard :D

I would have loved to have seen Christopher Walken in the role.

THX1138.Or maybe Colors. Duval does a lot without saying anything. Movie trivia: he loves the smell of napalm in the morning.

i was going to say Gary Oldman in any film he is in especially Leon.

but then i remembered Shaquelle O Neil in Shazaam. if ever a guy was robbed of an Oscar.

i havn't seen simone yet, but from what i have seen i gathered that it's a serious film:confused:
judging by de niro's performance in anal-ise this & meet the parents i'm going to guess that you're taking the piss

Not taking the piss about Bobby D - methinks he's a great comedian. As a "straight man". I'm not thinking . More Walter Mattau than a fast-talking/slapstick comedian like Robin Williams. (OK bad example)

Talking about Bobby D - has anyone seen "15 minutes". Not a comedy - but a classic! The media obviously hated it. :)

Simone's not good and not funny. Not sure if it's supposed to be a comedy. Pacino is great but my point is I think he has a limited scope - every role he takes on reminds me of Serpico.

Al Pacino - "Scent of a Woman" - the speech thingy at the end of the film was brilliant :D

jack Nicholson - take your pick.

    Gary Oldman - "Leon"

Anthony Hopkins - the Hannibal Lector films & "Titus"

Ed. Norton - "American History X" . Not going to win the greatest performance award, but he carried it very well.

honourable mentions to DeNiro, Gene Hackman & Sean Pertwee (whom I think is extrordinarly overlooked and underused)

Have to agree with Lemming on Ed Norton in American History X, chilling performance.

Not the best performance ever but one thats springs to mind is Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast.

    Christopher Walkin in anything.

John Huston in Chinatown - "Capable of... anything". Or the late Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mockingbird. He does so much by doing so little.

He could do comedy if he was playing straight-man to Robert De Niro.
That would be good - a film with De Niro and Pacino with more than one scene together.

Bobby DeNiro in Raging Bull gives a master class in method acting, tiz a flawless peformance

    Steve Buscemi

Try to name one film were he doesn't steal the show. He was in desperado and millers crossing for about 20 seconds and still but in great preformances.
