    Sharing the good news...

Scott Taunton, UTVi MD, (or "The Man", as I will now be calling him) has posted the following over in IOFFL:

Never in the history of weekends have I wanted one to go so quickly.........

Unless its uncapped its too little too late.

Even it is uncapped, its probably going to be the exact same performance wise as the three established BB providers.. RDSL as a cheapie option and then dearer for a better service!

It really makes no diffference to the vast majority of us out there, theyve made a deal wth eircom and obviosly through some ****up with lines duplex boxes splitter boxes locations etc we will never be able to get the service

So makes no blind bit of differnece really, good for those who can get it, means **** all to everyone else

    Regards

    Shin

Are they just reselling Eircom's product or are they using their own ala Esat/IOL? If this UTV product offered the ping performance of the Esat/IOL product without the cap (or at least a fair 20gb cap or so) then hell yeah I'd go for it.

I reckon the normal cheapo option will be the eircom service sold on. But I am very sceptical sometimes :p

Well, UTV have come up with a damn good offer for dial-up just at the time no one really believed anyone would do that.

So, even if it's too late, I expect them to have some positive distinction from all the currently available BB providers...

Anyhow, it's only few days now till we know exactly what the deal is. I'll have my fingers crossed ;)

I think there is a cap of 1 gig per day in NI.. at least when a friend called them to ask last month, the guy on the phone said thats what he had so i assume he was with UTV himself. Something similar would be great! I would rather a daily cap of a gig compared to completely uncapped.. otherwise warez monkeys will ruin the service.

The iol product is an eircom resell.

If the IOL product is a resell then why is interleaving off on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

Its not off, its low like all other radsl products in the state (altho to be fair this isnt confirmed as its still vaporware at this stage).

I think your thinking of Esat Businesses ADSL which uses fastpath rather than interleaving. This isnt an IOL branded product (or at least it wasnt).

Im pretty sure UTV will be offering the RADSL resell option.

Yeah I tried to go for the Esat business package but it wasn't available to me. I was actually thinking about IOL since I thought interleaving was off on it but now well all I can do is go back to hoping that IBB launch here soon so I can get me some super low pings.

One of the main reasons I haven't gone with Eircom, Esat or Netsource by now, is that I couldn't bring myself to terminate my UTVip account. My other reservations came from reading the reports on these boards from users of the available services. There didn't seem to be a clear winner but I had resigned myself to going with Netsource.
Boy am I glad I saw this thread!
I don't mind waiting another few weeks if it means not having the hassle of switching service provider (giving notice, cancelling dd's, etc)
btw, I'm under no illusion that the UTVi service will be magically faster or anything, I'm just far more confident in their ability to supply what they say they'll supply, and when. Also, the transition should be a lot smoother since I won't have to change ISP or telephone account.

    Roll on UTV !!

Same here, eth - I've nearly worn out my u, t, & v keys from checking their sites all morning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

I was speaking to someone in billing there this morning, and asked had she any info on it, she put me on hold and came back and said it was launching at the end of the month but she had no further details.

Well that was worth the wait....NOT!!
Eircom should be banned in this country all theyre doing is ruining any chance this country has of being successful in the technological industry...they are clearly now calling the shots with utv and any other company that attempt to give irish people a service they deserve.......ITS MAKES ME SO MAD!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭jonski

Well , i was impressed enough to go with them.

Oh shut up. If you want no cap, get a business package.

Anyway, having checked out UTV's phone tarriffs, I shall be happy to go with them soon :)

    It is what it's.
