English Captain

For me the position of English captain has been something of a joke since nancy boy beckham has had the position.

New lows were reached last night when not one but three Liverpool players had the armband. Being a pool fan I've seen enough of Owen to not want him to ever captain the side.

After halftime when Owen went off - Heskey got the band for sentimental reasons - please tell me it was his testimonial.

As far as I know, Carragher finished the match as captain. Can anyone confirm this - I find it hard to believe.

Erikson claims James should probably have gotten the armband instead of Heskey - The guy is a nutter - long may he be the England manager:D

    Give Sol Campbell the armband.

As much as I cant stand nancy boy he i svery good with the press when called upon. Heskey been given the armband was a joke. Michael Owen isn't that bad. He is vice captain for club and country afaik

The best captains are the ones in either centre half or centre midfield, right wingers(beckham) and certainly not strikers(owen) do not make captains.

    For example think of Maldini,Keane,Adams,Cafu,Deschamps,cunningham :) ?

Thats what I meant by "sentimental reasons". A bit of a silly reason to give someone the captaincy. The english manager is Swedish for fusks cake, can't see why he would start caring about it being someones home town.

Don't they have sentimentality in Sweden then?

I think it makes a mockery of the prestige associated to one being captain of thier country.

It should be earned not handed to someone out of sentmentality!!

Carragher of course was deserving! They're kind of making jokes of themselves.

As far as I know there was 4:
    Owen,
    Heskey,
    Neville (probably Gary),
    Carragher.

Erikson has made an apology about the situation - he says that after Owen went off James should have been given the position. This is because James was the only player (of the 22 that started on the pitch) that was not substituted.

Can you imagine James as the starting goalkeeper? nevermind the captain. The English team is fubar at the moment.
