and World Cup sensation Gary Breen, who is reported to have turned down a £3.6million, three-year offer from another Premiership club last year to join the Hammers.

    hahahahah - what a prat.

I suppose it shows the harsh reality of the other side of football.

A ball hit of him and hit the back of the net now he's a sensation ? (was?) it's a sad day for football when someone like Gary Breen is branded a sensation. Who ever wrote this article doesn't watch alot of football or has a great sense of humour

nobody slag Garry Breen, he is a hero! And his world cup goal was a classic AND he marked sum class strikers out of it eg. Carsten Janker!!!!!

Breeno, Breeno...........to the same tune as Keano!

It is true that he always plays out of his skin for Ireland.

strange how some players play great in internationals but dont perform at club level and then some like connolly......can't.....even though he plays well in Div 1

not just irish players now i mean Scholes hasn't scored for england in two years, and you'd almost think Becks was worth £30 mil if you only watched him play for england

I think its more a case of "you'd almost think Becks was worth £30 mil if you only read about him playing for england in the english media the next day"

Breen is an average player who raises his game for internationals. To be fair to him, there are a few who haven't made the same effort over the past year.

I almost forgot, out of over 400 players released by league clubs at the end of the season, 27 were Irish.

I'd be more concerned about emerging youths like Keith Foy being released than by the likes of Breen.

Hahahahahha - Janker is total $hite. A lumbering pillock in the Niall Quinn mould, except without the goals. I could have marked Carsten Janker out of the World Cup without breaking a sweat.

He scored a grand total of 0 goals in the Bundesliga in the season preceding the World Cup while Michael Max scored 25 yet was left scratching himself in Bavaria while Janker went to Japan. Another case of a player being picked on some sort of non-exsistent reputation that he has somehow acquired at international level.

ah i know Janker is crap and i was taking the piss a bit, but i do admire Breen even though he is only average and makes mistakes that he always seems to get away wit!

But as for that world cup goal he meant it a classic finish and the made history by making it the first time ireland scored three in a world cup game!

actually it was the first time we scored more than one, wasn't it?
