after looking at the EPG other channels like RTÉ1, Network 2 and UKTV channels have it too even though none of them broadcast in widescreen. it seems to be some programmes that broadcast in 14:9 are being given a widescreen symbol in the synopsis. why is this? are all these channels planning on going widescreen soon or is it to confuse people?

I suspect from "some" peoples point of view letterboxed 14:9 in a 4:3 frame IS widescreen, Which it is.

    It just isn't *ANAMORPHIC* Widescreen.

And of course even with ANAMORPHIC Widescreen, most actual FILMS rather than "made for TV" in OAR will also be "letterboxed" as they are wider than TV widescreen.

Did you know that ANAMORPHIC can be transmitted on ANALOG, but never is as old 4:3 TV owners would get skinny people? Many newer 4:3TVS can "reduce scan height" to display true animorphic TV as if on a WS tube.

Yet many WS owners set the 4:3 picture incorrectly "to fill the screen" giving fat squashed people.

I don't care if there are black bars at side or top. I want the whole picture as originally edited/directed in the correct shape.
