New cpu installed, P4 3.06 gig with HT

Now my problem is i dont see much improvement

    then with my 2.8gig chip.

Mobo is an Asus P4G8X Deluxe

Now my question. Does WIN2K SP 3 work with HyperThreading?

I dont see 2 monitors in the Task Manager Performance tab.

    Any ideas?

    Thx in advance

I think you need to use a different HAL. ( Hardware Abstraction Layer )
You can change this in device manager, under the properties for computer.

    1. Display a list of known drivers for this device
    2. Pick "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"
    3. Reboot

Hopefully you should now see 2 cpu's in task manager. Bear in mind though, that hyper threading does NOT benefit all programs. It can even cause a performance decrease if the program is unsuited to it. Best case is about a 15% improvement over a cpu the same speed without hyper threading.
You can switch it on and off in the bios and compare anyways...

In terms of raw cpu speed, your cpu is not even 10% faster than your "old" one. The mind boggles as to why you bought the cpu. I hope you didn't pay too much for it...

Well i know now that HT will not work properly with Win2k,

    http://www.intel.com/support/platform/ht/os.htm

    Bad Carnate Bad..

So WinXP is the only windows OS that supports it fully.

So now i still have the no show IE6 problem.. anyone have any

    ideas?

    Sigh!

yeh i read about that in a recent pczone they said XP is the only o/s to fully support hyper-threading which kinda sucks since XP is built on win2k

All you have to do is upgrade to Red Hat 9 to get the full benefit of Hyperthreading.
