I recently got a grow your own Bonzai kit, I cold stratified the seeds and Put them in the pot and low and behold they started to grow. They are now little green stems.

Is there anything that I should do to better my chances of growing a good bonzai tree ??

If you have lots of seeds, separate them on a small box tray, that way you can pick out the (smaller!!) healthier ones. If you have too many together in the pot, they just might kill each other off in competition.

    Hi,
When I first started out with Bonsai bout 9 years ago, I got a few of those seed kits, fraid I cant say one good thing about them, :)

Best way to do it, instead of planting the seeds in the vermiculite provided, use John Innes soil for seedlings, in a v small terracotta pot. :)

One thing it took me a long time to learn, let ur tree grow "NORMALLY" for a cpl of years only pruning and shaping branches and stems, wait for 2 years before *touching* the roots :) In the long run, it makes all the difference :)

my dad swears by only watering his at night time. He sprays it with a little spray gun and then pours a small bit in on top.
Don't know if it's very scientific but it seems to work.

The spray will wash any dust / dirt off the leaves. However, you should only do this in the late evening to prevent the water droplets acting as lenses and buring the leaves in the sunlight.

they are still going strong, although there are three in a tiny pot now.

I am a bit freaked to move them as they are so delicate. might wait till they get a bit stonger.
