Do gay choirs sing better?

I'm sure I heard this right, on radio today there was an ad for a performance by a choir who are lesbian and another by a homosexual contingent. The first and only thought I had upon hearing this news was..so what?

Why advertise the fact the singers are NOT straight? Do they sing differently or better? Or have we reached the point now where its profitable to say "We're Queer, come and see us"?

    Anyone else hear this?

Edit> I found this which might be the same ensemble.

It wouldn't be to do with the singing but the 'community' spirit of the thing presumably. There are Gay/lesbian nights out, glb car clubs, glb star trek clubs... I dunno, there must be somewhere in the world.

Its marketing. Its worked. You have now started a talk about this Choir. :)

How much these days is the success of an artist down to their marketing people and not down to raw talent ?

...just like certain young teenybopper "singers", it's marketing. It makes people notice and invokes an element of interest.

But then again, maybe it's the other side of the coin: as mentioned it could be more of a GLB community initiative.

I miss the choir we used to have here. :( They were brilliant.

    It is what it's.
