Stayed in The Tulip Hotel on Spuistraat. Nice hotel, cable TV. €60 for double room, but if you're clever you can pile loads more in on the sly.

Great camping area in Zeeburg, with good tram service to the city centre.

Cheap and an excellent coffee shop on site (stays open really late)

The Memphis is a nice hotel, nice area too (Christies auction house is right opposite the hotel).Make sure you go to the Italian restaurant which is close by, the pizzas are amazing! (can't remember exactly where it is, but when you walk out the hotel entrance turn left, keep going straight on and follow the route of shops and you should find it)

You'll need to get the tram in to the centre of Amsterdam, unless you enjoy walking :)

Oh, and watch out for the barman/porter called Nabil (if he still works there), he seems a nice fellow but trust me he ain't.

    Enjoy it,

I stayed in 2 different bastion hotels ... summat like a travellodge - sparse but functional. They are usually just outside the city center but are cheap as a result.
