Broadband in Cork/Kinsale - Digiweb Questions?

    Hello there all.

I wonder if someone could give me some advice. I have recently purchased a house in Belgooley which is between Cork Airport and Kinsale and as I have been blessed and used to a 1MB connection compliments of NTL in the UK I just can't go back to ISDN or 56k.

I have signed up with a company called Digiweb who give a sat 512k connection however its VERY expensive. Has anyone out there had any dealings with this company and if so how would you rate the speed?

Also does anyone have any other suggestion or knowledge of any other internet services available in this area?

    Many thanks

    Stephen

you wont be able to play online games with it

    512k up and 512k down ( burstable )

too expensive, nearly 1 and a half grand setup?

slower speed if u download too much, irc ect tempramental

ring eircom/esat see if your local exchange is upgraded or when it will be upgraded, ull need to be witin 5.5km for radsl and 3km for adsl

www.amocom.com or see other thread on here, might be able to reach u and suitable for gaming

You knew this when you bought.......surely ....you must have.

If high speed net access is a must then the vendor passing an ADSL test and getting it in writing from the Telco should be part of the contract of sale.

Irishwan aka Corkwan in your area.

Chorus .....God help us all. Ring them and find somebody who knows about Powernet Wireless , it'll cost ya as much as sat but is better ISTR

Hey there again thank you both for your comments.

I did know that ADSL was not available at the house but then again most of Cork is not covered and it will be a long time before it is as Eircom seem to be the slowest company for rolling the product out.

I have no option I guess than use the Digiweb product. Its an expensive start but at least I will have something and on line gaming is not something that I am that worried about at the moment but would have liked it. I did not know that I would not be able to do that so thanks for the info.

    Regards

    Stephen

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Kinsale is listed for DSL during Aug/Sep 03 (along with Cobh, Glanmire, Innishannon, and Mahon).

AFAIR Belgooley is served by the Kinsale RSU. Distance = 5,4km approx. Would work with longer range DSL technologies.

Assume you visited www.adsl.ie and tested your line and voted for it in your area etc.

Many thanks but I contacted Eircom and they said it was not serviced by the Kinsale exchange and Kinsale was not on the list anyway.

    AHHHHHHHHH!

Have a look at http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96102 You may want to PM the individual who posted the relevant item. Kinsale is well within the size that the company is committed to fit with DSLAMs.

There is more than a little evidence in this forum that would make one sceptical of info provided by eircom....

If Belgooly isn't on the Kinsale RSU, it's surely big enough for a pizzabox DSLAM!
