winuae questions

I'm having problems loading several games in winuae and I was wondering could anyone help me out with a few questions

1) Will the best kick rom cover all games in winuae or do I have to match the rom for the game I'm trying to play? By this I'm asking will kick3.1 for example do everything that 1.3 can do or do I have to use older roms for older games?

2) Also is it normal for the amiga environment NOT to take up the entire winuae window? Every game I load seems to only take up about 3/4s of the availble window and instead of being centered in the window it is offset a little to the top right.

Right...
In short no not everygame will run. Some older titles will either not work or not work correctly under 3.1. eg Hunter and Harliquin. I think it's best if you post the game's you want to play and I'll post a config I know will work for the game.

2. You need to configure the window size correctly. the entire screen should be used. Set it to full screen and see if that helps.
What version of WinUAE are you using?

Lets see, I'm currently trying 'Batman the Movie', 'Batman Caped crusader', 'Chuck Rock', 'Operation Stealth', 'First Samurai', 'Fire and Ice' and a few others

'Batman Caped crusader', 'Operation Stealth' get to the crack screen and then die. The others just don't load at all.

The version is Winuae ver 0.8.8 release 7. I usually use the kick2.04 rom from the A500+plus as that was the computer I had at the time and the only games I'm trying here are ones I had at the time.

Right I know there is defo issues with Winuae and First Samurai and Fire and Ice. Give WinUAE 0.8.22 Release 7 or release 6 a go if your machine can handle it as they have better support. I'l check out the other games.

I have been trying to load Fire and Ice. The only problem is that it keeps asking me for a Floppy disc. I am sorry I have really no experience with this kind of stuff. I am using 0.8.22, Release 4. I have tried a later release on my other computer, but I could not get it to save any of my settings, so that is why I was sticking with this one.
I´ll just run through my settings, that I think are important..
Game and I-O ports PC mouse and PC Joystick 0 I am using kick310.rom.
My display is on Full Screen 1280*1024 OpenGL is enable at 32 bits.
I have my DF0 loaded with 3.5"DD fireice1.adf AND MY df1 the same with fireice2.adf. Sound emulation is enabled 48000hz.
I don´t think I really changed anything else.
Can you help?

1-try different kickstart rom,like 1.3 for likes of batman,3.00 defo wont make games like batman work,kickstart images can be found on a google search
2-could be the chipset aswell,so try A500 or leave on your current settings,boot the amiga and hold down two mouse buttons and select the chipset to ocs,or set it in winuae settings.
3-press F12 to switch floppys,then click on the on tab thats DF0: to swap and change floppys into the same df0 drive, and some games wont run because they where just bad duplicates so try another one.
4-Ram issues,i dont know what model amiga you are emulating,but likes of A500 had 512k ram,so try A600 or A500+ or if you insist on using A500 increase the ram amount to something like 1mb in the winuae settings.

Hey Thanks for your quick reply.
I tried using all the kickstart roms that are available to me, but all of them exept the last 2 just give me the insert floppy from the start.
The last 2 give me a black screen now for some reason.
I am not sure why because I started it at 310 before and it started the game you could see the cool coyote screen and it asked for a DF0 floppy after that, but now it won't even do that even though nothing is changed.
It was already at 2 mb ram for the CPU if that is what you ment and , it says it is on chipset OCS on the CPU tab it says that match A500 speed is selected. This was my favorite game on my old Amiga I wish I still had it now, but it broke.
Maybe I should just buy one...

1-i dont know which amiga model your selected to emulate,but sounds like its A1200 since the kickstart is 3.0 and it was 2mb was already,although i be wrong since chipset would be "aga" then,but if its the A1200,most of the old games wont run,you need to pick different model like A500/A600,or the ram is too on your A500/600 model high for some old games,set it back to either 512k on A500 or 1mb for A600/A500+.

2-DF0 speed,if you have it set to turbo some games wont run correctly.

3-try a different copy,like i said some of the adfs floating around do be faulty themselfs

4-Chipset,from sounds of it could be using wrong amiga,A500 had ocs but you said you had an A500+ which had ecs,the A500+ model itself is selectable in uae

I got it to work. Apparently I just had a bad copy. I used the original settings and the new copy worked.

I'm trying to get operation stealth up and running, it runs fine, with speech, but won't allow sub tabs to operate, so I can't click 'examine' > inventory > 'newspaper' ....

Can anyone confirm which settings on winUAE allow this game run smoothly?

Try the latest beta version ( www.winuae.net ). Use the quickstart options, then point to your ADF(s). If it still doesn't work, I suggest posting on the WinUAE forum (link on the site) where the author is very much active.

I do bit of messing with the winuae settings first,since different games needed different specs,so maybe start with min amount of ram and early kickstart first,then gradually change it until it gets right.
