I'm not really a fan of Spike Lee at all, and I think I've already seen a film with Edward Norton where he tries to turn his life around... Maybe I'm being a jerk here though?
    Ah, well...

Yeh i'm not a big Spike Lee fan either but I do love Philip Seymour Hoffman and I hear he steals the show so i'm gonna have to give this one a look

yeah, i know what your saying AW but this film is a little different but it does remind one of FightClub. yeah Hoffman is fantastic. my fav bit has to be the camera work

Saw this yesterday and thought it was great ....

I really enjoyed the dialogue - cracking script. The characters really bounced off each other. Even though Norton was the 'bad guy', per se, you end up feeling sorry for him by the end of the movie.

There are a few fantastic monologues too... Monty's 'Fuck the....' speech was brilliant, and his dad's speech at the end was brilliant too (Brian Cox was superb, as usual...)

Norton stole the show, though...... brilliant performance.

    Go see.

    - Dave.

I wasn't reffering to fight club...

But I doubt I'll get a chance to see it anyway.
Heading up to Dublin for the beers, so I'll need every bit of pocket money I can scrounge. :D

saw it in dublin film festival thought it was excellent up there in quality to Spike Lees better films - Clockers , Malcolm X < Do The Right Thing , Bamboozled etc

the use of WTC site was superb aswell, that conversation the two blokes were having on the windowsill right above the site looked brilliant

the way it was slow moving worked aswell there was a hell of a lot of development of characters in the film

ending was good aswell although i know some people who didn't like it i thought it was very good

oh and its not so much that hes trying to turn his life around, really he is just preparing himself for the reality of prison(which the film lays out to the audience pretty bluntly )
and saying goodbye to his friends

Saw this tonight and found it to be extremely rewarding. Unlike Angelwhore I am a big fan of Spike Lees and this film is up there with some of his best work. Norton & Cox are magnificent and I agree that Philip Seymour Hoffman stole the show, Barry Pepper was very good as well.

If you like intelligent films then you should really give this one a try:)

superb film... one of the best i've seen this year... and natural.. wheew.

There was some great laughs in it too, funnier than a lot of so called comedies....... great movie. I suppose I'll have to seek out clockers now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Havent seen 25th Hour but Clockers is a great film. First time I saw Mekhi Pheifer (sp) in a film and he was very convincing as Strike. Harvey Keitel also puts in a great performance as does Delroy Lindo.
Well worth a watch. If you don't like hood type films, it might not be to your liking though.
Also afaik, there is no R2 release, so if you rent it, it'll be vhs.

Dammit........I wouldn't mind, but it was on telly not long ago, in widescreen!

Saw this last monday. Needed a break from study(fecking LC)

Anyway, i thought it was pretty good. Good story and theres a cool scene where hes looking into a mirror. Very unexpected, he kinda slates alot of people that would be going to see this movie.
Still it makes the irish look great

"Im Irish, i cant get drunk" :)

Its worth going to see if your bored and sick of Blockbuster action movies

This is not an intelligent film, its a film thats more real than any of the ****e thats out there right now. Just because its not a dumb as **** action movie does not mean its an intelligent movie.

Theres no twists, guess work, mystery or whodunnit parts of this film. It won't keep you guessing or have you searching the net for answers.

    Its good entertainment.

Nortons speech and the speech from Cox are outstanding.

The whole idea of finding the dog and looking after it was cool. PSH was good but I don't think he stole the show. This was definetly a group effort. Everyone performed superbly in this film.

in my top 5 fav films :)

my fav bits were when he was lookin in the mirror at the "f*ck you" and the following racist montage, and the end where hes imagining his future life if he doesnt go to jail.

excellent film, two thumbs up from jim
    :)

Maybe im completely wrong here but you think "Spike Lee" was somehow trying to get across that the Americans have to take some blame for "9-11" ? It just struck me a bit...

watch it again with this in mind and see what you think ! I loved the "**** you" monolouge into the mirror and the opening sequence with the dog was great too :)
the russian is awful anoying :p

Great performance by Ed and PWAH @ Anna Paquin !!!!! *mount*
