Amped is pretty cool with the right music, though not for everyone. I think it's part of the budget range now though so you can't go wrong. Rallipsort Challenge is excellent and cheap also. Quantum Redshift whoops any of the wipeout style games out there as well and is criminally overlooked by everyone. I agree with Sloth choices too (except for Morrowind, never played it). Oh yeah, the new Fifa is great fun, massive improvement over previous efforts, although I'm sure the Pro evo purists will ridicule me to no end for saying this.

must look in gamesworld for some of the budget titles, didnt know there was a budget range lol, what price are these same as ps2 32:99 i suppose

I like Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance , its very playable with a bit of depth for a beat em up,
splinter cell is good all round
rallisport challenge is good 29.99 in smiths well worth it
DOA3 is good 29.99 in smiths too, but mortal kombat is better but more expensive
Smiths also have an offer on seleceted games 2 for 50 euro so it is well worth checking it out as you can buy some games cheaper here as new than u can in other stores second hand

I am thing about buying Baldurs Gate Alliance but I do not know anything about it

House of the dead 3 is not good
Blade 2 is rubbish as is Minority Report
    Ghost Recon is ok
WWF wrestling legends is very poor

my brother says that Hitman 2 is good on the x box more playable than PC version
Capcom vs SNK 2 is good between friends a little carytoony though

Colin Mc Crae rally is very good but it is ultra realistic and you would have to really into rally sport to fully enjoy it

Will but Morrowind Gold Edition when it comes out too

Hope that is of some help

    Splinter Cell

    Halo

    Fifa

are the best games i've played so far the xbox. the budget range also has some good games in it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Panzer Dragoon Orta is pretty stunning as well.

Shenmue 2 - don't play it on Xbox. Get your hands on a Dreamcast and a copy of the DC version, and avoid the cringe-worthy American voice acting...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,463 ✭✭✭shinzon

much appreciated, given me somethings to think about and to buy lol :)

have to say halo is excellent, cant get off it, does anyone know anything about wwe raw, is it any good or crap

and is the budget range 29:99

    Shin

RAW is terrible. Dont even touch it or leave it near your xbox.
Also look into these to buy:

    NBA Inside Drive 2003
    Tiger Woods 2003
    Rocky is very good.
    Indiana Jones
    TOCA Race Driver
    Burnout 2 -> What a laugh you'll have. I'm addicted to it.
    Tao Feng
    Madden NFL 2003

Want any more recommendations?? I'll give you some more l8r.

Yep Halo is just amazing, just cleared it today in fact.

Get Shenmue II, also a classic game, and you get a free DVD with it.

    Others...(cheap)
    Tricky is a blast

Halo is the only decent game on xbox that isn'yt on other consoles. (I'm plastered just ignore me) Timesplitters is a great 4 player game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Gah, jesus, PLEASE don't go out and buy the Matrix. Rent it for a night, fair enough, just for long enough to discover how bloody appallingly bad it is, but don't buy it and put more money into the pockets of the tossers who released this buggy, unfinished and plain Not Fun pile of rubbish.

There's an interesting rumour going around that just like "special edition" DVDs, there'll be a "special edition" of Enter the Matrix out in time for Christmas - which will presumably be the actually finished version of the game. Woohoo, you get to pay TWICE for a sub-standard max payne clone! Lucky you!

Hmm, a few weeks ago I remember telling Darco that it would turn out like it has. I don't have much high hopes for film to games type games. I'm usaly right.

I just got Return to castle wolfenstein:Tides of war on the xbox. The framerate is a joke, but it still doesnt ruin what i think is probably the best shooter on the xbox. (i know, i know, halo rocks etc etc) But to be honest i prefer Wolfenstein, i still havent even finished Halo. Though dont get me wrong, Halo was cool too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Sloth

Wait until you reach the hell that is San Francisco on Hard Level 3. It took me 3 long days just to crack that one level but oh man was it worth it. I think I only have about 4 more cars to get in the game, I might try and get them over the summer some time. Use the Lotus Exige for all the arcade levels when you can get your hands on it as it slides all over the place, great for wracking up huge amounts of kudos.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Sloth

Is the xbox version pretty much the same as the pc version aside from the addition of the xbox live multiplayer to replace the rather limited online gameplay of the original?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

I think the opening level is all new to the xbox version.
Having only briefly played the p.c. version on my friends comp, i reckon the graphics are pretty much exactly the same (meaning they are frocking sweeeeeeeet), aside from the framerate issues.
Plus you get the original wolfenstein 3d when you complete it! bonus! Id highly recommend it. And that reccomendation has NOTHING to do with the leather clad dominatrix sex nazis. Nothing at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Sloth

Well the first level in the pc version was set in the castle so I don't know what it's been replaced with now. I've heard a lot of jazz over the live side of things, what makes it so good online?

All i can say is the pc version of wolfenstein rocks, no demos or anything like that, reminds me of moh, plus of course it has punkbuster so no cheats, first time you fry someone with a flamethrower is simply magic

Not having broadband and not being able to afford a bloody xbox live subscription i cant tell you what the multiplayer aspect is like. And yes, im bitter. Still rocks though, and yeah, Tides of war starts in egypt, not castle wolfenstein.

Kung Fu Chaos is good for a laugh.

It's a very cheesy beat em up.
It even includes the song kung fu fighting, what more do you want

Smash Brothers whoops its ass. Still its the closest you'll ever get on the xbox.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭Seifer

    My list:
    Halo
    Splinter Cell

    And to a lesser extent:
Jet Set Radio Future (love it or hate it)
    Amped
Morrowind (would be amazing but buggy as hell)

I've played the demo of KFC and while it is a luagh its very simplistic and would get old fast. Might get it when it goes classic. They shouldn't really be charging €60 for it.

As quick as lighting... Kung Fu Chaos was good but for some reason it never sold to well.

    I have

    Halo
    DOA3
    Morrowind
    Splinter Cell
    Project Gothem Racing

All of which I'd rate ver highly, DOA is probably the best fighting game I've played. To be fair, I think those are probably 5 games out of maybe 6-10 that you could call must have.

    Silent Hill 2
    Blood Omen 2
    Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding
    Conflict Desert Storm

are my other games and I'd rate them all as pretty good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭DannyD

    Tiger woods is ok.
Splinter cell is probably the best, with moto gp 2 a close second.

Almost everything else is crap or over rated... (I've played 40+ xbox games)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31 Wilbert

Halo is a true classic and Splinter Cell is great fun (although you do get a bit tired of all the sneaking around).
Apart from that, there is nothing!
Shenmue 2 is a great absorbing game but it is almost 3 years old and looks it.
My X-Box is gathering dust, while my Gamecube is humming away happily providing many hours of entertainment. Zelda Wind Waker was fantastic as was Metroid Prime.
Thats the thing about the consoles; only the Gamecube has any identifiable franchises. PS2 had Crash Bandicoot (crap) and also Metal Gear Solid (Pretty good) and apart from Halo on the X-Box, there is nothing.
Nintendo always had the better games but are unfortunately saddled with a kiddie image.

I find the gamecube simplistic and despite Nintendos protestations its aimed at a younger audience!

Zelda (despite looking toony) and RE0 are the only two games that really got me hooked. Metroid was grand for a while, but got bored quick enough.

We have a PS2 and Xbox at home and as I work long hours and don't spend huge amount of time on games I am looking for quality of quantity. So a few really good games does me.

I think with my current collection, the Xbox just about shades the Ps2, mainly coz of the multiplayer games and joys of the Xbox HD.
DOA3 and Gothem are causing ructions in my place and if/when DOA volleyball arrives I expect the same.

GC is good for the one player epic, but if you have mates around, it falls by the wayside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭DannyD

If it wasn't for the fact that media player exists on my xbox I would have thrown it in the bin along time ago.

Anyway the future seems brighter, what with burnout 2 and ???? coming.....

Why do people like timesplitters 2 ? I made an effort last night and believe me , besides the pretty gfx it is horrible !!!!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,631 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Can't agree with you. I think my GC is the best for Multiplayer. It's got all the good multiplayer games that xbox has except Halo but theres no need to go near that when Timesplitters 2 is out. Also there is Smash brothers and the forthcoming Final fantasy chronicles, F-zero and of course mario kart :D I haven't played the other 2 consoles much in the last 3 months because of the amount of excellent games on the Gamecube. Also I like Quantity over quality since I play excessive amounts of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭vasch_ro

Brute force is supposed to be very good and fable when it arrives should be interesting as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭Seifer

Brute Force hasn't been getting very good reviews and I was looking forward to it but will prob wait for a demo. Soldier of fortune 2 is coming out on the x-box and is looking pretty promising. Both are out on june 20.
Timesplitters 2 is complete tripe! It a horrible ps2 game marketed as a multiformat game. The aiming system was devised by retarded monkeys...on drugs!

Get a PC buy Battlefield and download all the superb mods for it,go online with them and you will never worry about what game is or is not coming out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,463 ✭✭✭shinzon

I agree with dcully lol, battlefield 1942 and its mods are brilliant

But what im particularly looking forward to on x-box is a game called BC, its been featured heavily in the magazines this month and it looks to be a bit of a stonker

only prob is it aint out till 2004

    Sigh

    Shin

oh well at least eve of destruction is winging its way to me tomorrow (soz blatant plug for battlefield 1942 again lol)

    :D

Whats the Dilly-o with steel battalion for xbox?? It was released ages ago but ive never seen it in the shops. (Sure, i know the box is probably bigger than most peoples cars, but youd think theyd at least advertise it) It seemed pretty damn original, and with a lack of quality, original titles on xbox i was looking forward to it (but not the 100 odd euro price tag)
Have ANY of you played it yet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,808 ✭✭✭Doodah7

I think most stores steered away from Steel Batallion due to the price tag. I think it was retailing in the UK for around £100 or about €140!!! (You could nearly get a Gamecube for that!!!).

Incidentally I have read that the build quality of the big switch box controller was not the mae-west either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭Seifer

I'd love a new pc and they're quite cheap now so I might consider it.
Only a limited amount of steel battalions were made because its not as if its a casual gamer orientated product with its price tag. It could only be pre-order and even then you weren't guarnteed one.
Fable will be cool if it does what it says it'll do; like most things.
