Netsource DSL Problem tonight

I've been happily using Netsource DSL since 15 may.
But tonight when i tried to log on i got this error.

Error 691:Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain.

Nothing has changed. The username and password are correct. The green light is on on the modem.

I called netsource support but they don't know what the problem is.

    Anyone go any ideas?

I'm back to 56k at the moment.

Seems not to be just yerself, ando has posted the same in http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97182

Interesting, wonder how many others are affected, eircom games or netsource cock up ?

are you on the Belcamp exchange niteman? I'm getting a similar error and on the Belcamp exchange

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭NITEMAN

    Don't know where Belcamp is.
    I'm near applwood in swords

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭ando

Belcamp is a good bit away, the exchange is beside the N32 on the Malahide RD.
Its obviously something wrong with netsource, I'd expect a few others are having similar problems but cant post here cause of no internet

Are you guys using routers or PCI modems?

    I'm using a D-Link DSL 504 router

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭carbsy

Fujitsu FDX310 , doesn't matter tbh , Netsource have been fiddling about! I was connected all day and only disconnected when I saw the posts here .... and now can't get back on .... gone beyond a joke with them at this stage!

Glad to hear you're all having problems too :)
but only because i dont feel like all alone in my misery anymore.
I'm using a D-link DSL-200 USB modem by the way.
Don't forget to each send netsource an email.
Wouldn't want to be down for the weekend if its not sorted tomorrow

There is a seperate server that stores all the usernames and passwords. When you connect over adsl, it uses ppp. The ppp server will check with the authentication server, to allow access. The auth server has most likely thrown a wobbler.

Other netsource users should not disconnect, if that's within reason, and you want to avoid the problem.

No problems here....Using A Dlink 504 on Netsource. Although i havent disconnected at any stage. Is it possible that you have rebooted your router at any stage Ando?

If you disconnect for a second (like me ffs) you won't get back on as there's an AC server problem.

On a positive note, I do see performance is alot better this evening. Ping times down, bandwidth high. Maybe there is somehting going on behind the scenes. Or the login prob has reduced the number of users.

yeah m8, I was browsing late last night at full speed with stable pings, all was great. This morning before work I switched the router off. When I came back and switched the router back on, it came up with this error :(

*mental note* dont turn off router tonight

Or maybe its just because carbsy and Ando arent logged on :p

There's nothing wrong with our auth server at the moment - in fact, I've just logged on with that connection. I'm not using RADSL though

I did take a support call from a customer this evening saying they weren't able to log on. If anyone else is experiencing problems, could they please log a call with us in the morning (support number is 4336070). I've now got a suspicion that Eircom may have broken something with the RADSL service, but I need more than one customer with an issue to be sure,

    Thanks,

    Thomas

Was just about to go to bed, when I checked the event log on the router. There appears to indeed have been a bit of a glitch reconnecting. Fourth time lucky.

IT is more than likely radsl side of things as I am on the same exchange as ando but have adsl and no probs. The strange thing is I would still think it is netsource's side as niteman is on the swords exchange(beside the castle SC) so for eircom to be having a problem in two different exchanges is not likely

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

Mine was first disconnected itself on the dot at 8am, i have same authentication login problem as everyone else now

Just rang netsource, apparently its a widespread problem with radsl users and they are contacting eircon about it.

A trace of the problem. There seems to be confusion about whether the BAS wants to do CHAP or PAP as auth proto. It repeatedly requests to do CHAP, and also ACKs requests to do so, but every CHAP I looked at failed. The BAS then seems to reset, as there is a request with id 1 received from it. This request is for PAP and everything continues ok after that.

Users might try enabling PAP and CHAP, or try switching between them. Also you may need to try a few times. It took me about 5 attempts before it connected.

BAS/RADIUS operators may need to check their configurations.

i was just onto netsource, they told me not to disconnect or else i'd have problems..... to late love ! :p

anyway, they say the problem is that eircom is not passing on the authentication requests or something to that effect, they dunno when it will be fixed cause its eircom we're talking about here

    I spoke to Eircom.

Bit of background: when a netsource RADSL customer connects to the DSL service, he initiates a PPPoE connection which is picked up by an Eircom BAS, which then forwards to us over an L2tP tunnel. The Eircom BAS does this by seeing the username is @netsource.ie, and querying an Eircom RADIUS server for the tunnel details.

Apparently the primary server failed last night, and the tunnel details were not configured correctly into the backup server. Eircom assure me they have fixed this.

I'm suddenly down to about 20% bandwidth...what's up? I've been connected to Netsource RADSL for 3 weeks now without a hitch.

Should I disconnect & reconnect? Is there any danger of not being able to reconnect if I do so?

    RC

    Thanks for the info.

Eircom were having trouble with their dsl stats webpage, due to connection difficulties. This seemed to start yesterday. When did Eircom inform you of the failure? If they delayed telling you, wouldn't they be ..... (exercise for reader to fill in regulatory consequences).

Dont be stupid!! Why should they? And what downtime costs you money????

I hate people with attitudes like this... These things happen and in this case it was not even Netsource's fault!!

Oh, lets see, Teleworkers maybe, like web designers, graphic artists, Consultants, Software Engineers, pretty much anybody working from home.

Remember Netsource are a business ISP and in business time is money. As a business ISP they have a higher standard to maintain.

Not that I would look for compensation off them (if it was Eircom on the other hand :), however it certainly wasn't a stupid question.
