Any ISDN gurus out there...especially those familiar with Fritz! cards

Hi. I've been growin old & going grey trying to get my ISDN to work.

ISDN Card: Fritz! PCI with Fritz Web 3.03 software.
    OS: Windows XP
    ISP: Ireland Online
Line installed by the formidible €ircon.

When i connect, it barely makes a connection - doesnt go above 1kbps. I have been in contact with AVM - the TA card manufacturers support people and gone through a number of their troubleshooting procedures (see below) and they're telling me its not the card - its the isp.

Well, i have connected with UTV internet using their dialer software and had the same problem. So this now seems to point to the illustrious line installers/providers.

    Q. Can anybody shed any light on this problem? Any similar experiences?

    Q. Has anyone had issues with the actual installation of their ISDN line through €ircon?

If it is €ircon, i want to have my case ready cos i know i'll have to weather various attempts to fob me off!

I will as always be grateful to anyone who can provide the knowledge....

    Dialog with TA Card Support:

    Dear Mr McGuiness,

Thank you for your inquiry. Downloadrates as you state them below are
indeed utterly low, bearing in mind that ISDN provides you with a bandwidth
of 64 kbit/s. First thing to determine is if you encounter these low
transmission rates only on the TCP/IP layer or already on the CAPI layer.
Thus, please run the test I have outlined below. The program FRITZ!data
neither uses TCP/IP nor Dial-up Networking or any virtual modems and is
therefore a good means for testing.

    Start the program FRITZ!data (Start > Programs > FRITZ! > FRITZ!data). When
the program has fully loaded press the function key F2 on your keyboard.
    Now enter the following phone number: 00 49 30 39 98 43 00 (please type
the entire number without any spaces in between). Leave the user name and
password blank and tick IDtrans. Click OK. As soon as a connection has
been established you will see a number of directories on the right-hand
side. Double-click 'Public' and download one of the folders found in there
(the 1000 kbyt file for instance). To do so please drag the file to the
left side of your screen (Local FRITZ!) or just double-click it. Please
inform me on the transmission rate achieved.

Please also kindly provide the following information:

    - CAPI driver version 3.x.x.200x according to Device Manager > Network
    adapters > AVM ISDN-Controller FRITZ!Card PCI > Properties > Driver

    - How do you connect to the internet? Using FRITZ!web or a dial-up
connection? In case of the latter, which middleware driver do you use? A
virtual modem as installed by the AVM ISDN CAPI Port driver (see below) or
the NDIS WAN CAPI Driver (ISDN line 1 and 2)?

    - ISDN CAPI Port Driver version xx.xx.xx according to the corresponding
    help file capiport.chm or capipt-
e.hlp in C:\Windows\Help. The AVM ISDN CAPI Port Driver is an optional
component so it is not necessarily installed.

    - List of installed hardware components and assigned resources (IRQ). To
gain this information in Device Manager, please choose 'View' > Resources
by Type > Interrupt Request (IRQ). Please ensure that the option 'Show all
devices' has been enabled under 'View'.

    - Type of processor, mainboard, chipset, and BIOS version

    Yours sincerely,

    Thomas Roennefarth
    AVM Support BerlinThomas,

connecting to your server using Fritz data, I downloaded the 1000KBYT file with a transmission rate of between 60-80kbit/sec.
    CAPI Driver Version = 3.10.2.2002
I have been unable to configure the Fritz!web software to connect to the net for some reason...you should note that the software is the german
edition - the ISDN card was purchased in Germany(just in case their is any question of compatibility here).
I setup the connection using the setup procedure in Internet Explorer...setting it up to dial
my isp with this "AVMISDN Internet (PPP over ISDN) (AVMISDN1)" connection. With this connection, I have just run a speed test on
    www.bandwidthplace.com with the following results:

Your raw speed was 23130.79 bits per second which is the same as:

    Communications

    23.1 kilobits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

    Storage

    2.8 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.

    1MB file download

    6 minutes
The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.

your best bet to is to try an eliminate the possible causes 1x1, try another card etc.

This software you speak of is not neccesary, all you need is the device driver, uninstall any software you did install. Reinstall the card(point to installation CD) and while your at it, unplug it and plug it back, also try changing your cable.

If all else fails, it is most likely a fault in your line...which you should take up with eircom, it is their responsibility to resolve the matter if it is a fault.

I would suggest that it is not your line, as the test they asked you to do appears to have run well. 60-80 kbits is good for an isdn 64kbits channel.

The speed test site you mention is in texas. Try a download from
    http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-alpha/5.1-BETA2/
as it is in ireland and fast.

I'm in the process of changing isps, going to wait and see if its the isp thats the problem.

I have the same card, does a lovely job.

Don't install their software, just install the drivers and configure it through windows. I had a similar experience with their software for whatever reason, uninstalled all the bells and whistles and she's purrin along.
