Sony Vaio CD/RW Problem

    Hi,
    I have a sony vaio with a CD rewriter (about 18 months old)and most of the time it will not see cds in the drive. It usually make a loud whirring noise.

    I have a feeling it is shagged. Anybody got an any suggestions.

    you could try getting one of those cd drive cleaner things. it there
    was any dust or dirt on the laser thet'd clean it off. have you tried
    checking their website for support?? check for and diagnostic
    utilities they might have, or possibly a firmware upgrade...

    be sure to sign up first though.

    I think the Vaio comes with either a two or three year warranty as standard, so you might still be covered. (A friend with a Vaio got his DVD/CD-RW drive replaced under warranty recently and it was definitely more than a year old.)
