Im new to this board and find it very difficult to read and post on.

When you write a reply, it goes to the very bottom of the thread and the immediately preceeding messages may have nothing to do with the point you are trying to make. Resulting in confusion.

When you see a post you only see the first one and can not see how the discussion develops so you have to read all the threads before you realise you didnt want to.

These are two of the merits of the old board which was clearer and more user friendly. What happened to the old board. Granted the discussion wilted drastically but it seems to be gone altogether now and in the past couple of weeks the topics returned to athletics orientated ones. All the board needed was a little regulation.

Maybe someone set up a new board on the other set-up, nothing against the administrator on this board, i dont know how s/he works yet. The administrator of this board could manage a board from b2g3 perhaps?

This board is here because I am heavily involved with boards.ie from an administration point of view and also track athletics takes up a lot of my time between training and competition, so when the other board went downhill it seemed natural to set this up so that people had an alternative.

As to "how I work", well I haven't had to do much, I've moved off one thread, deleted one post and edited another. In each case I've communicated my reasons to the person in questions and I haven't had any complaints yet ...

If/when the board grows I'll probably delegate moderatorship to one or two others.

As to your usability questions, I think the first point is in relation to threading, which we don't support unfortunately. Many people prefer this way, and many prefer the flat style that we have. It seems to come down to what you're used to, and hopefully at some point we'll offer the choice of ways of viewing threads.

If you're replying to a specific point in a specific post, then click the "quote" link under that post and your reply box will have the post prequoted for you, and you can edit it down so that only the relevant point is included so the thread of conversation is more apparent.

I don't quite see why you are being forced to read posts that you didn't want to ...

The old board still exists as far as I can see.

    Hi Confuser,

You can quickly identify and access new posts to existing threads by clicking the downword pointing arrow to the left of the thread subject line in the main post listing. If there is no arrow, there is no new posting since your last visit.

I agree that a threading view of posts would be a nice option. Hopefully vBulletin (open source organization which makes the board software) will make this option available in the future.

In all other respects the technology on this board is vastly better then the unregulated. More powerful software takes a little time and energy to learn. Once mastered, the richer features of this board will be appreciated. Many thanks to ecksor for setting up this board. I'll continue to post here.
