As it often is with comedians and comedic actors, you either like them or you can't stand them, how does everyone feel about the following?

    Richard Pryor
    George Carlin
    John Cleese
    Bill Murray
    Jim Carrey
    Eddie Izzard
    Robin Williams
    Eddie Murphy
    Chris Rock
    Bill Hicks

Richard Pryor - Excellent in his time
George Carlin - Haven't heard much of his stuff
    John Cleese - Average
    Bill Murray - Average
Jim Carrey - Excellent comedic actor, haven't heard much stand up
Eddie Izzard - Pretty good stand up.
Robin Williams - Quite good at stand up
Eddie Murphy - Excellent when he did standup
    Chris Rock - Pretty good
Bill Hicks - Excellent when he was alive. He'd be my favourite of the bunch

    in order of teh funneh

Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder - together these two make up the best paring ever !

Eddie Izzard - Terrible actor, GREATEST STAND UP BAR NONE

Bill Murray - Black Sarcastic Witty Mofo. Love it

Jim Carrey - Best body language comedy I know of

George Carlin - I aint seen any movies by him, but hes pretty good onstage. has a good presence about him.

Robin Williams - Good comedy actor, but plays a far better serious role imo (12 hour photo)

Chris Rock - Seems limited to black v white jokes so far of what I have seen of him. Standard american black comedy cliche

Eddie Murphy - Good for a laugh, not great.
John Cleese - Wouldnt give him the same much time

Bill Hicks - Not too sure bout this guy, came across some vids but they may not have done him justice, unheard of until last week tbh

    /edit
and no i dont think this should be in films. give me films with George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Eddie Izzard, that the majority of people would know of ? i dont know of any tbh.

Richard Pryor - very good groundbreaking stand up show
George Carlin - heard of him but never seen him in action
John Cleese - has gone from very funny(python) to pathetic (rat race)
Bill Murray - still going strong
Jim Carrey - never really liked him but had a few good moments (trueman show + dumb and dumber)
Eddie Izzard - one of the best at stand up.
Robin Williams - as someone said above better in the serious roles.
Eddie Murphy - "raw" and "delirious" were brilliant but anyone who makes dr doolittle is mad
Chris Rock - dont like his style really but some laughs all right
Bill Hicks - shame he died - another pioneer of comedy

Eddie Izzard is a terrible terrible actor from what I've seen him in - Circu, Shadow of a Vampire and Mystery Men.

    Bill Hicks never did films.

Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy are 2 of my favourites. Jim Carrey and Robin Williams are also terribly funny John Clease is decent and Bill Murray is also decent Bill Hicks was a genious. dont know an awful lot bout the others. Another comedian you haven't listed who is also very funny is Chris Tucker from 'Rush Hour' i think he's hilarious!!

Eddie murphy's career seems to have been one long slide into banality since the "coming to america/Golden child" era,

Richard Pryor, Fantastic actor and great stand up,if you havent seen Blue Collar with Harvey Kietel you are missing a cinematic treat,Also great in stir crazy with another great comedian favorite Gene Wilder

George Carlin, not sure what movies he been in?

John Cleese great in Monty Python Movies/Clockwise never rated the two wanda movies much

Bill Murray groundhogday ghostbusters and caddyshack all good movies

Jim Carrey like all his stuff except dumb and dumber

Eddie Izzard awful movies wooden performance

Robin Williams like most of his stuff especially Cadillac Man and awakenings, some real stinkers though Hook and jumanji

Chris Rock pretty good though wasnt fan of nurse betty

Bill Hicks did he make any movies?

I was actuall rating the comedians on what I've seen of their standup, they all did standup except for Cleese as far as I'm aware!?

Another good standup comedian was Denis Leary, although he was kinda working on the Bill Hicks thing.

Denis Leary IS still doing standup, and is one of the many comedians that use the "Anger" approach to comedy. And does it quite well too might I add

    Bill & Ted, dude!
And.. that's about all that I can think of.

Bill Hicks made a film with a bunch of friends called "Ninja Batchelor Party". It's nowhere near a "serious" movie - just a bunch of guys messing about. Still pretty funny though.

Where should this thread have gone instead? I'm pretty sure the 'comics' board deals with the other type of 'comics'.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Chris Rock is so un-funny it hurts to watch his "work".
