Ireland obstained from the UN resolution delaying it to next year. Basically they are just sweeping it under the carpet until next year. The reason being that it would have almost certainly been defeated. Ireland made a number of positive contributions but we will have to wait a year to get it back on the agenda again.

Ireland will however next year host the presidency of the EU so will have a more influencial position next year to really push the resolution through. I'd recommend that people write letters to the department of foreign affairs to make sure it is on their agenda.

A number of countries cited as Anti-Gay rights were Egypt, Argentina and China.
