    first things first...
i'm living in east clare & thinking of getting a sattelite connection (too rural for broadband, dial up sucks)

i'm looking for some opinions on who to go with & what to expect to pay.

expect to pay €1k-1.5k to get it installed

then €110-€150 a month for 2 way 512/64 or so with low cap

The uplink is the expensive part ..

wait until fixed rate dial up is available then you could look at a download only system - as with all satellite bandwidth will be expensive - if sharing then a caching proxy is recommended.

I take it you have looked at irishwan - 8Km links are easily achievable and up to double that if you you drop back to 1Mb - then even allowing for financing a base sation midway it's still cheaper and faster than two way satellite...

How far to Galway or Limerick ???

had a look at that digiweb link, it seems to be a decent offer.
i'm definitely too rural for any kind of wan access.

any more info on download only set ups?

that satdrive seems like teh win...

who's offering fraico? (i'm guessing that's fixed rate dial up)
and is there any way to change the download/upload ratio on a dial up connection? (i doubt it, you never know tho:rolleyes: )
