i was thinking about getting sky but the main disadvantage is that you can only watch one channel at once. so i was wondering if it was possible to just get a UK digi box and connect an extention cable to it and be able to watch 2 channels at once in the house.would you recommend me getting a secondhand uk or an irish one.

To watch 2 channels at once, you'd need 2 digiboxes, 2 subscription cards (unless you just want one to show free channels or ITV etc with UK FTV card). You would also need a Quad LNB to put on the end of your dish. The quad allows 4 digiboxes to be used independantly. I know you only need 2 outputs for 2 digiboxes but AFAIK, there is no such LNB designed to fit on a minidish.

For information on Sky in Ireland you could try:
    ICDG

what's involved in replacing an lnb, is it d.i.y.-able , my sky minidsh is just outside the window from my pc, id' like to 'tap into' it to record radio & whatnot
you'd need a dedicated satellite card too, not just a tv tuner card yes ?

Ok you have a dish pointing the right way - the lnb will only see half the channels if it is an old SKY one ...

    check www.lyngsat.com / www.satmania.com / www.satcodx.com for frequencies & FTA -

When the BEEB go FTA then you should be ok - cos it is all low freq transponders - though you will have to move the dish so the lnb is about an inch higher and about 3 inches to the side of where it is now,

Digital is a totally different thing
but there are still some analog channels on Hotbird (13E) and Astra 1(19E) - but none on Astra 2

BTW: all the analoag channels are in the lower band

    www.lyngsat.com

    Lower band on Astra 19E.

Hotbird 13E has at least 1 maybe two still above 12GHz
    "M2" is one
