    2) Roberto Carlos (for Real Madrid vs Espanyol?, volly from the end line into the top corner)
    3) Ryan Giggs (for Man United vs Arsenal '99, beat seven players and crashed the ball into the roof of the net)
    4) Tony Yeboah (Leeds vs Liverpool?, volly from outside the box, absolutely class)
    5) David Beckham (Man United vs Tottenham 96/97 season, shot from 35 yards into the top corner).

    What is yours?

    1. Andy Cole vs Newcastle in 95 i think (schmeicel threw to Cantona who 1st timed to Giggs who 1st time hit to Cole who 1st time from edige of box into net ,4 touches in 7 seconds)
    2. Nayim ,he scored from the halfway line in the last mintue to win a cup final.
3.Reuben Sosa vs someone ,Keeper kicked it really far it went into the other teams box (going wide of the keepers right) ,Sosa ran onto it as it was going off the pitch and somehow volleyed it into the far corner, Tv replays were shown to have proved the ball crossed the line the and went WIDE and he somehow volleyed it in from the behind the goal.
Dunno if it went wide but great bleedin shot as it was on the line and he smacked it.
    4. Trevor Sinclar vs Someone ,Overhead kick possibly best overhead kick ever.
    5. Brazils 4th goal (Jairzinho i think) in 1970 WC final ,superb team goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

My two favourite goals of recent times have to be Keane Vs Germany (man, I lost my voice for days after that goal. Just thinking about it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand), and McAteer Vs Holland (sweet! btw i mean the one in landsdown road).

Obviously, one of the greatest goals of all time is Houghton Vs England! I was only a kid at the time, but I can remember it like it was yesterday!

What would be the greatest solo goals in everybody's mind?
    Henry Vs Spurs this season?
Van Nistelrooy Vs Fulham this season?
    Gascoigne Vs Scotland?

There has been many a great solo goals so what does everyboy think?
I am still lookin for a clip of the Rivaldo bicycle kick, it is driving me mad as I have clips of all the great goals!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

Without doubt, it has to be Maradona's against England in '86. I remember Said Owiran's (sp?) goal for Saudi Arabia against Belgium in '94, great goal but he didn't have total control of the ball for the whole run like Maradona. Same with Weah's, he nearly lost the ball on the half-way line. Henry's and Van Nistelrooy's were very good too. Ronaldo scored one for Barca in the league when he was with them boys, where he dribbled around about 6 players and tucked the ball past the goalie, forget who it was against but that's my 2nd fave solo goal that I can think of at the moment. My hangover setting in big time, and I'm starting to shake so gonna stop typing now...

Kinkladze when he was with man city got a few good ones.

It was against Uruguay in the Semi Final of World Cup 1970. That goal, and all the others Brazil scored in 1970 and other world cups up to 1986 (and believe me there were a few belters) can be seen on a video released by the BBC called the Boys from Brazil. It's quite old now. It ends with John Motson looking forward to Italia 90. But you might be able to get it on amazon or some site like that. Maybe the Beeb have even brought out an up to date version.

If you do search for it on the Web, make sure you get the right Boys from Brazil, otherwise you'll get some B-movie with Laurence Olivier hamming it up as a Nazi hunter on the trail of Josef Mengele (Gregory Peck). You've been warned. :-)

Negrete for Mexico v Bulgaria at the 1986 World Cup Finals

Since Im only 15, I cant remember much of italia90,as I was only 3 at the time... I do remember the screams though, and seeing the goal shown all over TV over the next few years or so. the goal against USA '94 was something to be remembered though.. I still can hear the roar.

My all time favorite would have to be Keane against germany though. I can remember sitting down thinking to myself; "I bet Roy Keane is sitting down right now with a smug grin and a beer in his hand"..

    Was rod wallace I think
Best Goal ive ever seen has to be eddie gormley for pats against sligo in a 4-1 about 97 or 98(I think)
He scored from his own half with an amazing left foot strike better than that beckham waster anyday. would have probably made it on to one of those guess what happens nest things but the cameraman cocked up and missed the goal. he was a genious in his day apart from those dodgy backheals.

Most memorable goal? Ray Houghton's vs England in '88.

Compostella - beautiful goal. I love that at some point in the middle of it they stopped tried to take the ball from him and just started trying to take him out without even getting close.

    1. Clarence Seedorf against some scrubs when he was at Real Madrid an amazing shot (not chip!) from just inside the halfway line. Incredible.

    2. Roberto Carlos - Le Tournoi. It still cracks me up to see the photgrapher start to duck when the ball eventually ends up about 40 yards from him. I still don't think that curve is actually possible. Roberto Carlos uses camera tricks!

    3. Carlos Alberto last goal in the 1970 World Cup Final.

    4. Bergkamp Vs Argentina. 1998 World Cup. Greatest pass ever.

    5. Tony Yeboah Vs Wimbledon. A million times better than his Liverpool goal he beat loads of players and then hit an unstoppable shot.

    In no particular order.

    1. Rivaldo bicycle kick (Against Valencia, to give him a hat trick, Barcelona a 4-3 victory, and put Barce in the CL)

    2. Berkamp vs Argentina (France 98) Sheer class.

    3. Houghton vs Italy (USA 94)

    4. Yeboah vs Liverpool (Fantastic strike from the edge of the box, in off the underside of the crossbar.)

    5. Roberto Carlos vs France (That 4 team tournament, I remember the name but I cant spell it :). That free kick, you all know it.)

Anyway there the first five to come to mind.
