    Has anyone had one done?

I have mild phimosis, and would rather not have a partial/full circumcision, if it can be helped. Just wondering if anyone had this technique done; if so, what reasons were there for having it done, and what were the end results like?

    Thanks.

    What's your doctor say?

I haven't been to my GP yet, I've just been reading up on the various treatments for phimosis, and can't find that much literature (anecdotal, really) on preputioplasty, so was just wondering has anyone here had it done.
I've decided to get a full circumcision now as it is, but just out of curiosity I'm still interested to know has anyone had this (relatively uncommon) operation done.

    Hi all,

I have found the discussion in relation to circumcision advice (here) to most informative and very interesting.

However, I am curious to know if anyone has the name of a urologist/plastic surgeon who carries out the "preputioplasty".

See this wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preputioplasty for some info.

I think I have an identical problem that would be better treated by preputioplasty than full circumcision. Flaccid, I have no problem pulling my foreskin all the way back. But when erect, my foreskin will only come back maybe half-way (meaning only half of the head gets exposed). It's not uncomfortable for me ever.-I can have sex completely enjoyably without pulling my foreskin back behind the head.

In a way, this kind of makes me think that any intervention might be completely unnecessary... as someone else on the circumcision discussion board said, "if it ain't broke..." But sometimes (and this might sound stupid) I wonder if I'm missing out on something... Like, maybe if my foreskin worked completely normally, sex would be even more enjoyable..?

If anyone has any information on how to go about getting the preputioplasty operation, please post here. I would be willing to travel if this operation is not available in Ireland.

    Thanks,

    A.D.

Your doctor is best qualified to decide this.
    Talk to him/her.

Not always, or at least not always the first doctor's opinion you seek. Like any profession there are good ones, bad ones, and average ones. They may not have even heard about the procedure and just fall back on the obvious. Get a second third or fourth opinion until you've exhausted the options to your satisfaction.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yes of course, the more opinions from those with medical qualifications the better, but unless the OP is in the medical field himself, it's very dangerous to be deciding for himself what is a 'better' course of treatment for the particular condition he has.
