    This from indo:-
THE new computerised penalty point system will not be fully up and running for another year.
But State coffers are set to receive a boost of more than €3.5m in speeding fines imposed in the past six months.

New figures released by Justice Minister, Michael McDowell show 44,100 fixed charge notices have been issued by gardai between the introduction of the penalty points system for speeding offences on October 31 and April 14.

The speeding fine is €80 and so far there have been 26,279 notices paid while summonses have been applied for in 1,629 cases.

The minister said the new computerised fixed charge processing system had a target of 15 months to be in place from the signing of the successful tender in September. This would be followed by a pilot system which would be monitored before gardai "rolled it out" nationwide.

It was expected the system would be fully operational throughout the State in the second quarter of next year, the minister added.

The system would then be extended as quickly as possible to cater for all penalty point offences.

This system is starting to resemble one of those mirages that get further away as you run towards them.

    Mike.

44,100 fines in 6 months compared to the previous years 330,000? And only 18,000 people have penalty points?
