Someone I know wants to go travelling this summer, sep, to the US or Australia or anywhere that will be fun for that matter. Does anyone know of any websites where you can go to meet other lonely people? I'm helping out cos She's not very computer literate - I'm not the loner!

I cant think of the name but there is a company specialising in just that.. Its not a dating service its just for people who need someone to travel with. Popular with pensioners and stuff but im sure young people can use it too..

I'm planning to travel to Oz later this year (or early next year) alone.
I reckon I'm better off travelling alone to begin with.
You are bound to hook up with others in Oz.

According to the Aussie backpacker site - www.stownedcrow.com
    - 78% of people travel to Oz by themselves !

Another site worth a look for info is - www.irishabroad.com

It's also worth bearing in mind that the rugby world cup will be starting around October, so flights and accomadation could be more expensive. (Ireland plays their first match in October)

    Cheers,
    Silvera.

I'm in exactly the same boat Lexie...I was thinking of heading off around September for a year...Oz is looking the likely candidate now, seeing as I can only get a 3 month holiday visa for the US.

Bit of a pain having no-one to go with, but it may be better experience doing things on your own...bit of a challenge and all that.

I have nothing solid yet...I'll probably decide within the next month, but if I get any good deals I'll pass them onto you Lexie.

to scared to travell on my own

 Lexi, What exactially are you scared about?
I can understand where your comming from BUT when you think about the worst thing that could happen, 9 times out of 10, the same thing could happen at home
Yea you might get mugged and murdered (worst case sinario) but in my opinion, theres a greater chance of that happening in a home place because your relaxed and guards are down, while when travelling your more aware and concious of all the bad sh*t that can happen.
And if its something you really wana do, you should do it. I'm about to head off on my own because to me the thought of never travelling and following my dreams is a lot scarier than anything elce. I say, Go for it

I travelled to Oz on my own a couple of years ago.
I was going to meet up with some good friends who were down there for the year and planned to stay a month.
It was only my second trip away and , the first time on my own, which I was a bit scared about initially to be honest, but shur it was grand. This is what happened.
On the plane over to london, spent 50 minutes chatting to a woman who was telling me her life story, and how her son was a lazy *h*te etc.
We only talked about where we were from at almost landing and discovered we were second cousins:eek:
Then the flight to Sydney via KL was delayed so, I was given a voucher for tea and sanger in a café in heathrow.
Girl came over and started chatting, who was also travelling alone, followed by two more Irish people.
One of these turned out to have been an ex girlfriend of a former flatmate of one of my friends in sydney.
To cut a long story short, we all hung out and had a ball for the next few weeks.
On a long haul like that, you are bound to meet people, and start chatting etc , a 12 hour flight, which is followed by another 12 hour one, equalling 24 in the air tends to be a community in that way, so nothing to be scared of really.
