Itching to get a digital camera, but the rate of change/depreciation is putting me off. Can anyone recommend a good one for less than 400 euro that would be good for a few years, or is that impossible and will it be out of date by christmas?

    Fact; digital depreciates badly.

If you must, either buy abroad where the cameras are cheaper and there is a good exchange rate eg USA or buy second hand. Buying second hand digital is a bit iffy as you're buyin old tech.

If i were u I'd buy this canon , its called the ixus V3 here. Theres no software or charger worries

€439.00 for the model that FinoBlad mentions from www.ny-camera.net or £329.00 sterling (approx €460.00 and exchange rate is improving by the day) from www.ffordes.com

Can I pipe-in, and recommend my recent purchase?
It's a Fuji FinePix F-601. Total price (all-in) came to about : €415, when I purchased it from NY Camera.

Ony issue, is that I required a European plug adapter for the charger.

I love this camera! Movies at 640x480. It's small.. Designed originally by Porsche (ok that's not a real selling point - just for the boastful plebs!). Very complete feature-set (for my needs)..

Ideal for someone moving from a budget digital camera, and looking for something with more customisability (as I was).

Don't know how it would size up against the ixus V3, though it's still an absolute bargain in comparison to the prices being charged in this country for the camera..
