    RTE have announced the following:-

    RTE One

    Specific increases in home-produced programming:

    Drama: 15%
    News and Current Affairs: 10%
    Music: 12%+
    Factual and Historical: 8%
    Entertainment: 14%

    In addition:

there will be an increase in home-produced programmes

    for young people
    during the summer months
in Irish language and bilingual programming

    N2

    Specific increases in home-produced programming:

    News and Current Affairs: 7%+
    Music: 6%+
    Entertainment: 8%+

Development of a Weekly Business News programme

    In addition:

Network 2 will introduce new home-produced series for Children and/or Young People in

    News
    Science
    Music
    Art

    Across RTE One and N2

a 25% increase in subtitling of home-produced programmes

a focus on developing new talent.

They have also made statements in regards their 4 Radio Stations. Plus the set up of an Investigative Unit and a daily local news segment on News at One (Radio or TV?)

Why dont the put more commitment into N2? Why an increase in Young peoples programming on RTE One is N2 not their Young peoples station?

I was just thinking about there promises.

    1. Drama on RTE one Increase. Fair City has per year 104 hours. and if we include Servants and Batchelors Walk and On Home Ground plus their xmas special on N2 we have a total 120 on average so far in 2002. that means a small increase of 18 hrs extra which is perhaps one maybe two new series.

    2. Music on RTE One "Come West along the Road" which is a 30 min show and doesn't go out the full year 12% = ???????

    3. 8% factual and historic will have to be mainly Historical programming as there aren't very mean of them. Lots of factual programming.

    4. N2 Music 6% so we have No Disco, Top 30 Hits, Last Broadcast and Song from another room which is only about 200hr of prgramming giving us 12 more hours.

    5. News and Current affair is News 2 so far which is 104 hrs per year which means an increase of 10hrs.

And well TV3 dont like these promises because they are planning main stream shows which will attract viewers and they feel that RTE should make show that are not mainstream and thus take viewers away from ITV Ireland, which plans a new Chat show with Eamon Dunphy, they will have do away with Adgenda, I suppose.
