    From a player perspective, I've heard of people running CS through Wine. I stress that this is hearsay.

    From a server perspective, there's already a *nix binary available.

    I use CS on linux and I can say that it does work with wine or winex i would recommed winex as this as they done some stuff to optimise it for use with games.

    Yup, goto transgamings website and get winex the new full release of 3 is nice, complete with game manager etc. Ive ran HL and a few of the mods and they all run nice and smoothly under it.

    [EDIT: whats the craic with compiling it?

    to download winex do the following
    $ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login
    Hit Enter when prompted for a password
    $ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine

    Then what? I know little about unix but want to learn. Do I use a command here or is that all I have to do?

    I have not tried the above yet (in another thread on this board explains, please look :D )

    [RE-EDIT: those smilies are not ment to be there, its a : followed by a p :p]

    winex is supposed to use some emulation layer or something unlike wine. Its not supposed to be that much better if its better at all, probably depends on your hardware settings.

    winex supports more recent versions of counter strike much better than wine.

    I've been running cs on linux for at least a year now...
