Duff or Kewell?!

Well who would you pick had you a choice of these two players?

Undoubtedly two of the best left sided midfielders in Europe and maybe the world but if it came down to picking one to play on the left wing who would it be?

I was chatting a mate on Sat night and he said "nationalities aside I'd go with Kewell on the left wing".

I think I agree with him when you take the Irish thing out of it.

If I were a manger with both players in the team, I'd go with Kewell on the left with Duff playing behind the front two as a free role playmaker.

I reckon I would go for Duff Jonno, Kewell can score the spectacular goals but duff I think has a better sense and reading of the game. More of a team player.

Also I read that Kewell is a spoiled basta*d and I would rather have a player who would settle in and not have to be babysat all the time and told he is great.

    Duff for me.

You can't always afford the luxury of a free role man playing in the hole between the front two. Not many teams rely on this on a regular basis at the highest level, like Real Madrid do.

I'd say Duff is a better player though, Kewell is very hot and cold IMO.

Well if i was Australian...id say Kewell.

But im irish so Id say Duff.

But Nationalities aside...id have to go for duff really. He makes all the magic happen...

I'd go for Duff for reasons stated by Nemici. Though I suspect Duff would cost a few million more than Kewell.

I think if Liverpool got thier hands on Duff it would open up a whole new dimension for them.

You have to be having a laugh - Kewell has scored a couple of great goals, maybe even at crucial times, but 90% of the games he plays in he does nothing, it's nice to see a player beat a defender - but when 9 times out of 10 there's no end product you can't afford to have him in your squad..........

Duff has been consistent this year, which would make him an automatic starter in most teams - I agree if he went to Liverpool he would open up a lot for them (they are crap generally), but I'd say if there is a bidding war United would win it, superior spending power, and if Liverpool don't qualify for the Champions league they won't be spending much..........then there's Arsenal, with Wenger saying he won't be selling his top players it shows they have some financial difficulties, I'd like to see him flourish wherever he goes - he doesn't seem to have a huge ego like Kewell

by the way if press reports are acurate Kewell is only valued at 6.5 million

Parry(LFC chair) has said in the last few hours that there is money avail for their shortlist, the shortlist is reputed to include the ballyboden boy.

But kewell at 6.5m would prob be more within the range though :(

maybe duff did support pool as a kid. but at the end of the day, its about playing for the best and oh ye lets not forget the big bucks...and i hate liverpool anyway...maybe the accents have something to do with it...

Duff definately!! Right i know im irish and all that!! but if you think blackburn and leeds are very similar!! These clubs depend on their big players to perform game in game out!! Kewell doesnt do that!! he goes for a tea break!! dont get me wrong id love either of these players at the pool next year but duff offers more to a team and he is more dependable!!

P.S. Duff's position is left winger!! he can make an angle and then runs like a blue a*sed fly!! and bang!!! goal!! Sweet as a nut!!

    Er, Pires:)

Between those two, Duff undoubtadly. If pires decides to hop it (ba-dum) this summer, id love to see arsene try to sign damo. I think pires has the edge on him talent wise, but Duffs work ethic is probably a lot better.

No, that was Robbie Keane. I've heard that Duff supported United as a kid. Not so long ago either.

Apparently Kewell is a bit of a weirdo loner-type and doesn't talk to his team mates. A bit like an ex-Irish international we know of.
If it boiled down to cash I'd go for Kewell, you'd get him for £6-8m but otherwise I'd go for Duffer first. Souness put a £25m price-tag on Duffer's head so only United could afford that really.

Go For Duff,he's Younger seems to be getting better all the time and wont have to be making trips halve way round the world to play internationals. He's also more consistent at beating defenders than Kewell.

I just hope Blackburn dont ruin everything by asking for crazy money.

    >I just hope Blackburn dont ruin everything by asking for crazy money.

The bloke himself has said on several occasions that he doesn't want to leave. I think its Blackburn that will want to take the money now, well more the money men than the manager obviously. But transfers of players from clubs they really like to another big club haven't always gone to plan, Figo never being the same since leaving Bar$a, for example. Duff is a shy bloke, and I think Blacbburn suits him. We'll see, but one thing is for sure, he won't develop as a player at Liverpool anyway.

If Duff was to join Man Utd. wouldnt be be competing with Giggs for the place on the left.

Giggs is personally one of my favorite players, but I figure that Fegie wouldn't change him since hes basically played in that position for most of the games for the last 5/6 years?

there's an awful lot of tabloid talk about giggs going to italy, and with fergie acknowledging the need for a squad/team shake up and giggs being 29 he'd have to be a candidate for departure...

no way duff would be involved in a transfer worth 25m sterling to be left on the bench, no team can afford that and Duff wouldn't settle for that he's too good

I've gotta say Damien Duff hes as skillful and quicker aswell!!

Probably kewell as i've really only seen duff play for ireland with the odd blackburn game every so often, so from familiarity i'd say kewell.
maybe duff did support pool as a kid. but at the end of the day, its about playing for the best and oh ye lets not forget the big bucks

I agree with you entirely but needless to say gwan the pool.

I think that Bateman made sense earlier on. Duff and Blackburn seem well suited. Personally, I think that it would be the best thing for Duff, Blackburn, and Ireland if he stayed at Ewood Park for at least another year.
If Kewell went to Utd and the 'pool got Dugarry with Duffer staying where he is. That would make me happy.

The fact that I support the mighty Blackburn Rovers has no effect on my thoughts on this subject.

    I'd go for Duff.
I've heard that Duff supported United

    Me too:(
    Souness put a £25m price-tag on Duffer's head

That was at the start of the season after the world cup. I read recently that a price of 15m was being thrown around and also that Duff may go for 12m. But that was most likely in some tabloid rag so, pinch of salt and all that.

It's around 15million but the buyout clause in the contract will increase the fee to nearer 17 million big ones afaik
