What about those new Codex types then?

So what's the general opinion of the codex books not based on a particular army?

You know what I mean, the Cityfight, Armageddon, and soon to be Eye of Terror ones.

Do they sacrifice valuable art and fluff just to get three more armies out quickly? You think they've been playtested enough? Is the whole concept a good idea?

    Let's hear your thoughts...

They have their adantages, but they will only last a short amount of time and you will find yourself playing very few games of the sort.

The advantages are however is that it adds a little more depth to the game, if you have an imperial guard army and a friend has an ork army, if you both got the armageddon codex and a few extra miniatures you could both totally transform the style you play each other in half the time and money as it takes to make a new army. It also has more depth to it, your armies are fighting for something, and offers more opertunity for epic one on ones (yarrick vs ghazkul [sp?]).

I like them as its an easy way to introduce new armys to the game as apose to writing 4 new codexs, it also gives you an idea of what you will be facing in the campain.

    Perhaps.

Has anyone bought Codex: Cityfight, though? Or even tried a game with Cityfight rules?

I have the Codex. It's more of a rulebook than a codex, so the name is a bit misleading. It's very comprehensive for urban combat. I've not had the fortune to try a full-blown city fight though (yet). It looks like it'd be extrordinarly bloody.

There's a game report in the codex too, along with a couple of scenarios if I recall.

I've played a few games with the Cityfight rules, and it gets very messy very quickly in close combat. The idea is good, and adds a bit of variety to your games, but it's not the sort of thing you want to do too often.

Cityfight is a great stand alone game for 40K.
very smooth, HtH is straightforward and template weapons have a fixed amount of people they can hit 3 for blast and 6 for ordance & flamer templates. cover saves are modified by the strengh of the weapons. Oh and Ordence weapons hit on the users bs no scatter dice, great for my marines. demolisher and whirlwind are amazing, well not if you are facing them. vehicle armour has a top armour rating now as well so shooting at vehicles from buildings is good (armour rating on top is the same as rear armour, some exceptions-Demolisher & Vindicator. dreads are unaffected)

I own all the codexes and city fight is a good idea like cedex catchen has rules for jungle fights, were they clearlly have the advantage over everyone else.

Which is why I stopped collecting Catachans- Nobody would play me in jungle conditions...
